Dog Soldiers

A couple camps in the Scottish Highlands. The woman gifts a silver letter opener, and soon after they are killed in their tent by unseen assailants. The event opens the story with a sense of mystery and danger.

A soldier named Cooper runs through a forest in North Wales, pursued by armed pursuers. He fights back but is overpowered and captured. It is revealed he wants to join a special forces unit, but he refuses an order to shoot a dog and is rejected.

Four weeks later, a squad of six British soldiers, including Cooper, are airlifted into a remote Scottish Highlands location to train against an SAS unit. The exercise is designed as a test rather than a real engagement. The mood shifts from training to tension as they land.

The following morning, the soldiers discover the SAS unit's savaged remains. Captain Ryan is badly wounded but alive, offering cryptic remarks about what attacked them. The group retreats as unseen assailants begin to close in on their position.

During the retreat, Corporal Bruce is impaled by a tree branch and killed. Sergeant Wells is attacked but is rescued by Cooper. They are carried to a rural roadside where Megan, a zoologist, finds them and drives them to an isolated house, bringing Wells, Cooper, Spoon, Joe, and Terry to safety.

As darkness falls on a full moon, the house is surrounded by attackers who are revealed to be werewolves. The soldiers barricade themselves and fight for survival. They hope that sunrise will revert the creatures back to humans.

Terry is abducted, and ammunition runs short, forcing the survivors to acknowledge they cannot hold out much longer. Cooper and Wells decide to attempt an escape to safety, hoping to reach daylight before the werewolves overwhelm them. The plan hinges on a risky withdrawal from the house.

Spoon creates a diversion to draw the werewolves away while Joe steals a Land Rover. Joe drives toward the house but is suddenly killed by a werewolf hiding in the back seat. The survivors react with shock as danger closes in from multiple fronts.

Captain Ryan reveals his mission to capture a live werewolf for study and weaponization, while Cooper's squad is treated as expendable bait. Wells and Cooper confront Ryan in anger, but Ryan transforms into a werewolf and escapes into the forest. It is revealed that the Uath family owning the house are werewolves.

Using a Land Rover and petrol, the survivors blow up the barn in an attempt to flush out the werewolves. Megan then reveals there were no werewolves in the barn and confesses she is a werewolf from the Uath family, having unlocked the back door to let others in. Wells shoots her in the head and the group braces for a final stand.

Wells and Cooper retreat upstairs to escape the werewolves, while Spoon fights a werewolf in the kitchen. He gains the upper hand briefly but is killed by a second werewolf. The two remaining soldiers pull back to the kitchen and assess their dwindling options.

Wells orders Cooper to take shelter in the cellar as the werewolves close in. He cuts a gas line and blows up the house, sacrificing himself but ensuring the others have a chance to escape. Cooper narrowly survives the blast, crawling toward safety.

As the sun rises, Cooper attempts to leave but is confronted by Ryan in his werewolf form. In a brutal fight, Cooper stabs Ryan in the chest with a silver letter opener and shoots him in the head. The danger of the werewolves is finally confronted as daylight strengthens their weakness.

Cooper and Megan's Border Collie Sam emerge from the cellar. Cooper's firsthand account of the events, titled 'Werewolves ate my platoon!', appears in a sensationalist tabloid newspaper alongside the England vs. Germany football match results. The story closes on the spectacle of his survival and the odd mix of fact and sensationalism.
