Kanagavel attacked Shankar after witnessing him harass and behave indecently toward his girlfriend Asha at the beachside restaurant. This was the initial trigger that set off Shankar's revenge campaign against Kanagavel.

Earlier, Kanagavel's decision to step away from the table to pay the bill left Asha alone and vulnerable, directly enabling Shankar's approach.

Shankar, a corrupt and egoistic police officer, was part of a brutal conspiracy with Minister Vedhanayagam and a criminal named Adi (Aadhi Bhagavan). Together, they were responsible for the murder of the Police Chief's daughter. This corruption network operated using illegal activities, and the Chief revealed this connection to Kanagavel to explain the depth of Shankar's criminal reach.

After Shankar ordered the murder of Kanagavel's friend Ashok with Adi's help, Kanagavel retaliated strategically. He assaulted Shankar and used Shankar's own gun to kill Adi, creating the appearance that Shankar killed Adi in retaliation for his earlier confrontation. This clever framing intensified the conflict between Kanagavel and Shankar while keeping Kanagavel's own hands theoretically clean.

Adi's death was staged by Kanagavel as part of his plan to outmaneuver Shankar. After killing Adi with Shankar's gun, Kanagavel kept Adi alive in hidden captivity. This allowed Kanagavel to use Adi as a secret leverage and later reveal the truth when the time was right. Shankar believed Adi was dead and launched his manhunt based on this false assumption.

Kanagavel's calculated nature was evident when he killed Adi using Shankar's own weapon, suggesting he had more complex plans than simple revenge.

Shankar murdered Vedhanayagam, his own co-conspirator, to eliminate witnesses and consolidate power. After framing Kanagavel for Vedhanayagam's murder, Shankar created a situation where both his former partner and his enemy were seemingly taken out, allowing him to operate without accountability. This act demonstrated Shankar's ruthless willingness to betray even his allies to protect himself.

When Adi was fatally wounded during the climactic shootout, he confessed all his crimes to Asha on his deathbed. Asha recorded this confession, which became the crucial evidence exposing Shankar's true role in the conspiracy, the murder of the Chief's daughter, and his criminal activities. The confession was the turning point that allowed the police commissioner to order Shankar's capture.

Despite having evidence of Shankar's crimes, Kanagavel chose to surrender to demonstrate his commitment to justice and the legal system. He believed in facing trial rather than remaining a fugitive, which aligned with his goal of becoming an IPS officer. His surrender also helped draw out Shankar into the open for the final confrontation.

After the evidence from Adi's dying confession exposed Shankar's crimes, Kanagavel was exonerated. The court recognized he had been framed and that his actions, while outside the law, were aimed at exposing corruption. His bravery and commitment to justice led to his recruitment into the Indian Police Service, fulfilling his original ambition.

Asha played a critical role in exposing Shankar by recording Adi's dying confession. She presented this evidence to the police commissioner, which led to the order for both Kanagavel and Shankar to surrender. Her courage in documenting the confession was essential to clearing Kanagavel's name and bringing down Shankar.

After the commissioner ordered both men to surrender, Shankar attempted a desperate escape. Kanagavel tracked him down and engaged in a final confrontation, killing Shankar in self-defense. This decisive confrontation ended Shankar's reign of terror and fulfilled Kanagavel's mission to bring the corrupt officer to justice.
