Prasanta Kumar Roy is the son of industrialist BK Roy who loves music but hates the family business. His dedication to his art leads to neglect of his work and causes losses for the company. Disillusioned, Prasanta leaves Lucknow and relocates to Calcutta to live with his old friend Asim. He begins a fresh life and silently pursues his singing, eventually performing on the radio under the pseudonym Abhijit Chowdhury. In Calcutta, Prasanta meets Sucharita, the niece of Amritlal Majumdar, and falls in love with her. He secretly becomes handyman for Amritlal’s household, presenting himself as a driver-mechanic under the alias Hridoy Haran. The arrangement lets him stay close to Suchi while pursuing his music career.

Sucharita is a devoted fan of Abhijit and longs to meet him or obtain his photograph. She starts visiting Asim's circle, hoping to reach Abhijit through the sole contact address. She even asks to obtain a photo, setting the stage for a complicated encounter with Prasanta.

During one of Suchi's visits, she nearly catches Prasanta while he hides behind his disguise. The close call deepens the complexity of their relationship and foreshadows the growing tension between his two lives. Suchi remains unaware of the driver’s true identity for now.
