Deliver Us (2017) Plot Summary & Ending Explained

Deliver Us concludes with a profound transformation for Father Daniel Fox. Throughout the film, he begins as a pragmatic man who dismisses supernatural and biblical signs. However, as he is thrust into a prophetic journey involving the birth of twins believed to be the Messiah and the Antichrist, he is forced to confront the possibility of divine intervention and his own faith. The climax sees Fox in a state of inner chaos, driven by visions and the influence of the Devil, who manipulates his doubts and fears, pushing him toward violence and madness. He becomes convinced that killing one of the twins is necessary to prevent the apocalypse, specifically targeting the child he perceives as evil. Yet, his efforts are thwarted when Yulia, the pregnant nun, intervenes and shoots him to stop his destructive pursuit. As Fox dies, he is briefly revived—possibly by divine or Messianic power—highlighting a recurring motif of resurrection and hope. The solar eclipse during the climax symbolizes a cycle of darkness and rebirth. It reflects Fox’s spiritual transformation, as he moves from a skeptic to a believer, and from light to darkness, ultimately embracing the prophecy.

In the final scenes, Fox and Yulia return to the cabin where they will raise their twins and protect them from external evil, emphasizing that the true challenge lies in nurturing both children without judging which one might embody good or evil. The film’s ending suggests that faith, sacrifice, and trust are necessary to face the apocalyptic prophecies and that only through love and acceptance can humanity hope for renewal. The mysterious visions, prophetic artworks, and the symbolic eclipse all reinforce the idea that the end of one cycle marks the beginning of another, with the potential for salvation emerging from chaos and darkness.
