Death Come True

Makoto Karaki wakes in a strange hotel room with blank memories. When he switches on the TV, he learns in chilling terms that he is a serial killer, and the reality around him feels unfamiliar and unreliable. He quickly realizes there is no obvious way to leave the room.

The doors are sealed and all exits seem blocked, trapping him inside the hotel. He searches the corridors and rooms for clues, trying to piece together who he is and what happened. The sense of danger grows as the walls of the hotel seem to tighten around him.

Two investigators, Akane Sachimura and Nozomu Kuji, arrive to probe the case and suspect Karaki of murderous violence. Their presence heightens the tension as Karaki tries to defend himself and understand why they are there. Despite the hostility, he finds himself inexplicably drawn to Sachimura.

Karaki dies several times during the investigation, only to wake up again and press on. Each death erases some memory while recovering others, peeling back layers of his past. The hotel becomes a stage for recurring resets that blur the line between memory and hallucination.

Karaki meets the Concierge and learns the hotel is a virtual reality space created by the Come True system. The Come True space can reconstruct memories from living or deceased individuals for others to view. It is meant to aid mental health treatment but is being repurposed for police work.

The Concierge explains that the investigator is someone who used Come True to link the real Karaki and Sachimura to Sachimura’s death. The VR environment is shaping a version of truth tailored for a police inquiry. This revelation calls Karaki’s reality into question and redefines who he is within the case.

An unknown party hacks Come True to delete the hotel, erasing the investigator’s memories and making him believe he is Karaki. The memory loss deepens the mystery and distorts loyalties. The Concierge urges him to escape, but he remains focused on uncovering the truth.

The Investigator and Sachimura confront Kuji, suspecting him as Sachimura’s killer. Sachimura had suspected Kuji of corruption and struck a deal to murder her for safe passage, but Kuji betrayed them and killed Sachimura. The real Kuji then appears and admits guilt.

Kuji reveals a stark choice: stay in the virtual world with Sachimura forever or return to the real world to face consequences. He warns that leaving could erase their memories and alter their very existence in that space. The Investigator must decide whether love and memory are worth the risk.

The Investigator and Sachimura decide to stay in the unstable virtual world created from Sachimura’s memories. Kuji slips away, warning them not to leave the hotel, and the two choose a life together within the memory-made realm. The outside world fades into the ambiguity of the Come True construct.

The Investigator opts to leave the virtual space and follows Sachimura’s clues to gather evidence of Kuji’s corruption. The pursuit leads to Kuji’s arrest and a formal investigation into his involvement in Sachimura’s murder and other killings. The truth behind Sachimura’s death is ultimately uncovered in the real world.
