Dear Maya

The film opens by following teenage girls Anna and Ira as students at a Catholic convent in Shimla, where they divide their days between classes, romance novels, and dreaming about boys. They share a secret fascination with their enigmatic neighbor, Maya Devi.

Maya Devi is a beautiful but reclusive woman who rarely leaves her large house. The girls learn that her past includes a chacha who thwarted her marriages to keep the estate, and that she has grown resigned to a solitary life.

Ira conceives a prank to brighten Maya's life by writing love letters as if from a Delhi suitor. Anna goes along, hoping the messages will spark happiness for their neighbor.

Ira breaks into Maya's house to steal a photograph, but the intrusion spirals into trouble when both Ira and Maya's maid get injured. The girls are reprimanded, and Anna is asked to fill in for the maid while she recovers.

While Anna fills in for the maid, new letters continue to arrive and Maya appears happier with each message. Anna starts to sense that the letters are brightening Maya's life, despite the deception behind them.

Maya shocks everyone by announcing she will sell her Shimla house and move to Delhi to find the mysterious letter writer. Anna is distressed by the idea and tries to persuade her to stay.

Anna discovers Ira authored the letters and she races to stop Maya, but cannot. She confides in her mother and is reprimanded, then sent away to boarding school, leaving Ira behind. Anna leaves without saying goodbye, and Ira is left devastated.

Blaming herself for the consequences, Anna dedicates the next six years to finding Maya in Delhi, poster by poster and call by call, following every lead. She even meets a boyfriend, Rahul, who proposes, but she cannot bring herself to accept.

Anna returns to Shimla to discuss her life with her parents, while Ira visits. Though Anna remains angry, Ira apologizes and accompanies Anna to Delhi in a bid to reconcile and reconnect.

Moved by their shared longing, Anna forgives Ira's prank and persuades her to transfer to a college in Delhi, marking a new academic direction for Ira and a life closer to Anna.

As Anna and Ira head to meet Maya in Delhi, they find her at the zoo garden, bright and radiant. Maya recounts how Delhi opened up the world for her, meeting Ved, marrying him, and building a joyful life.

Maya tells the girls that the letters changed her life and urges them to say yes to life itself, embracing risk and possibility. Anna and Ira feel the weight of their prank lifted by her happiness.

The film closes with Anna accepting Rahul's proposal, stepping into a future with him. Ira commits to Delhi by transferring to a college there, starting fresh in a new chapter after Maya's encouragement.
