Cry of Fear

Simon wakes in a dark Stockholm alley after a car strike while trying to help an injured man. He staggers toward home as fear and night mar the streets, only to be hunted by deformed monsters. The encounter sets a frantic tone for the perilous night ahead.

Simon enters an apartment block in search of the man who texted for help. He discovers the man dead in a bathtub as the building becomes dilapidated and blood-streaked. A chainsaw-wielding monster attacks and decapitates itself upon defeat, leaving Simon vomiting and unconscious.

Simon regains consciousness near a cryptic, violent doctor who insists he cannot trust him. He begins navigating the city while wrestling with the doctor’s ominous warnings. The uneasy dynamic deepens the psychological horror of the night.

After wandering the city, Simon finds Sophie, his childhood friend and love interest, on a rooftop. He attempts to confess his feelings, but she rejects him and leaps to her death. A monster named Carcass appears, offering Simon a choice to kill it or flee.

Carcass confronts Simon, presenting a stark choice: kill it or flee back into the building. The decision marks a turning point as he presses on toward home. New threats loom at every corner.

Simon tries to enter a subway station to continue home but cannot because he lacks a fuse. The barrier forces him to search elsewhere, delaying his progress. The missing fuse becomes a recurring obstacle shaping his journey.

Going to a nearby college to find the fuse, Simon is ambushed by monsters upon discovery. The college becomes a deadly maze as he fights his way through the halls. He secures the fuse only to face more danger on his path home.

Escaping to the subway, Simon finds the doctor again and learns that progress is blocked by a door needing two more fuses. He returns to the previously chained apartment to locate the fuses, guided by fragments of the doctor’s past encounter. The search intensifies the sense of paranoia.

While attempting to retrieve the fuses again to open the train gate, Simon enters another nightmare in which monsters hang from the ceiling and chase him through a maze, escaping into a completely different hallway.

After boarding the train, Simon is attacked by monsters and the train derails, causing him to lose his belongings. He narrowly escapes as the train teeters on a cliff and ends up in a dark forest.

Deep in the forest, Simon discovers an asylum and the doctor appears behind a gate, demanding a new gun in exchange for passage. He can comply or refuse, but the doctor betrays him and shoots him, leading to a gunfight that ends with Simon killing the doctor.

Simon leaves the forest and rows a boat across a lake to his hometown. He reaches his house, only to find it empty, and a book in his bedroom reveals that the entire story was a figment of his imagination, a coping mechanism for his crash-induced trauma.

A flashback reveals that the therapist (the doctor) is a manifestation of Simon’s trauma and that the five endings depend on player choices throughout the game. The monsters symbolize inner fears, turning the journey into a mindscape born from his mind.

There is a secret humorous ending earned if the player completes the game on the fourth ending at least once and places a mysterious package addressed to Simon in a mailbox. This ending adds a bizarre, lighthearted twist to the otherwise grim tale.
