In the climax of Crescent City, it is revealed that Luke Carson, nicknamed Charlie Hedges, is actually the serial killer behind all the gruesome murders. His obsession with mannequins stems from his troubled past and hatred for his father, a fashion designer who cheated on his mother. This deep-seated resentment led Luke to kill his father by slashing his throat, which was the initial act of violence that set him on his murderous path. He then saw himself as a punisher, targeting those he deemed hypocritical or deserving of punishment—specifically churchgoers—believing he was bringing justice in his own twisted way. Throughout the film, Luke manipulated the situation by framing others, including Jaclyn Waters, to divert suspicion from himself. His obsession with mannequins was symbolic of his detachment from real human emotion and his desire to perfect the facade of ugliness and perfection.

In the final confrontation, Luke kidnaps Brian and attempts to kill him, revealing his true identity in the process. Brian manages to fight back and ultimately overpowers Luke, suffocating him to death. The fact that Brian survives the ordeal provides a cathartic ending, freeing him from Luke’s reign of terror. With Luke dead, the police find Brian injured but alive, and he is reunited with his family. Though haunted by the past, Brian comes clean about his earlier mistakes, including the accidental shooting of a teenager, which had been kept secret out of fear and guilt. In the scene at the hospital, Brian’s honesty allows him to earn a second chance; Captain Howell decides to reinstate him into the police force, acknowledging his integrity and resilience. The ending underscores themes of redemption, justice, and the personal struggle to confront one’s past, emphasizing that even after committing grave mistakes, it is possible to find resolution and move forward.
