An alien diplomat Xu Zheng is sent to Earth to establish intergalactic diplomatic relations. The superpower nation Armenika, a portmanteau of Armenia and the United States, reserves this contact for itself, convinced that they are the most advanced civilization on the planet and therefore have the sole right to handle first contact. The alien, however, resents the assignment because it requires engaging with earthly beings, and the entire process hinges on a delicate DNA exchange: a ball must be placed in a mouth and coated with saliva to seal the treaty. The tension between pride and duty sets the tone for what follows.

Captain Zach Andrews [Matthew Morrison] embodies a certain swagger and self-importance that complicates diplomacy. In a moment of vanity, he snaps a selfie while the signing is underway, and the alien interprets the flash as a hostile act. The mishap triggers a cascade of misfortune: a satellite strikes the alien ship, shoving it off course until it crashes in a bustling amusement park. What could have been a routine moment of protocol becomes a farcical scramble, throwing the diplomatic mission into chaos and dragging ordinary park life into a high-stakes international incident.

Two Chinese men working at the park—monkey trainer Geng Hao [Huang Bo] and his business-minded friend Shen Tengfei [Teng Shen]—discover the wrecked spacecraft. They mistake the alien for an unusual animal and ruthlessly strip away the headband that lets the diplomat access essential gadgets. Raised in the circus world of performing monkeys, they decide to train the alien as a showpiece, envisioning a lucrative future rather than a diplomatic outcome. The alien, meanwhile, seizes opportunities, using the headband to glimpse its surroundings and capture photographs with a built-in camera. The park’s surroundings, filled with replicas of famous landmarks, become a bewildering mosaic that the Armenikan agents misunderstand as real-world locations, accelerating a dangerous chase.

To recover the alien, Armenika dispatches John Stockton [Tom Pelphrey], their top operative and a relentless problem-solver. Stockton’s presence heightens the tension as the alien manages to take photographs while it has access to its headband, fueling a global manhunt. The photographs trigger global panic as Armenikan agents misread the alien’s transmissions; they race toward symbolic sites—the Kremlin, the pyramids—firing on the crowds in their zeal to capture the diplomat. The chase becomes a deadly mix of sci-fi gadgetry and park-side slapstick, underscoring the absurdity and danger of miscommunication on a planetary scale.

Geng Hao and Shen Tengfei diverge in their plans for the “monkey.” Geng leans toward selling their find, hoping to cash in on a strange, alien novelty. Shen Tengfei, more pragmatic and opportunistic, imagines turning the creature into a celebrated performer and a source of ongoing income. The alien, who can regain access to its headband and its telekinetic powers, turns the tables on them, forcing them to participate in a human-like performance so it can observe and judge the etiquette of intergalactic diplomacy up close. The moment becomes a tense balance between exploitation and survival, with the alien using humor and power to test human behavior.

A desperate scheme unfolds as the alien demands Geng sign the treaty by placing a new ball in his mouth, but miscommunication leads to a comical misstep: Geng accidentally swallows the ball. The two men decide to incapacitate the alien by getting it drunk, hoping a booze-soaked deceit will render the diplomat inert and possibly dead. They succeed in a sense, immersing the alien’s body in alcohol, and intend to sell what they believe is a dead, drunken monkey. When the Armenikan embassy arrives, the ruse continues as they dress the alien in the monkey’s suit and parade the fake “monkey”—now a double for the diplomat—into diplomatic custody. The maneuver works long enough to draw out the science behind the ruse and to buy them time.

Back at the embassy, investigators extract DNA from the ball and reveal it to be monkey, the two men, and traces of Asian feces—an embarrassing revelation that shatters Stockton’s confidence and his trust in his own instincts. Stockton realizes he has been duped and sets out to reclaim the alien, leading to a pursuit that zigzags through a carnival of mistakes, bravado, and cultural misinterpretations. The truth shakes the mission, but it also cements a strange bond between the two exasperating humans and the alien they can’t quite outwit.

Upon returning home, the alien resurrects, and a final showdown looms. Stockton arrives just in time for a dramatic clash that blends comedy, action, and a hint of tragedy. The two Chinese men—Geng and Shen Tengfei—are caught in a last-ditch gambit that mixes drunken bravado with quick wit as they try to survive the alien’s telekinetic demonstrations. In the climactic moment, they arrange a final sign-off by sharing a third and final ball, and the alien, with a flourish of power, telekinetically collects all the alcohol and carries it away to its own realm. The treaty is signed in a way that feels both farcical and strangely potent, marking a tenuous understanding between worlds forged in chaos, cunning, and the unsteady humor of human error.

Throughout, the film threads together themes of hubris, cross-cultural miscommunication, and the fragile line between diplomacy and satire. The alien’s presence intensifies the sense of wonder and danger, while the humans’ opportunistic schemes reveal both ingenuity and moral ambiguity. The amusement park setting—a place designed for spectacle—becomes a fitting arena for a story about how quickly the veneer of civilization can crack when fear and pride collide. The result is a wild, uneven, but undeniably entertaining tale that tries to balance irreverent humor with a surprisingly earnest look at how countries and individuals negotiate power, trust, and the old-fashioned need to belong.
