Peter, an eight-year-old boy, struggles with the emotional distance of his overbearing parents, Carol and Mark. This lack of connection leaves him bullied at school and devoid of friends, amplifying his isolation.

One day, Peter chooses to stay inside during recess, hoping to find some solace. His substitute teacher, Miss Devine, notices his situation and offers him sympathy despite the bullying he endures at school.

Despite Peter's excitement about Halloween and plans to go trick-or-treating, his parents refuse to allow him to participate. They cite the past disappearance of a girl as the reason for their overprotective behavior.

That Halloween night, Peter hears a strange tapping sound coming from within his bedroom walls. When he recounts this to his parents, they dismiss his claims, insisting that he is simply imagining things.

As Peter continues to hear the tapping, he eventually communicates with a mysterious entity named Sarah. She tells Peter that she is trapped in the walls by his evil parents, inciting feelings of fear and confusion in him.

Concerned for Peter's well-being, Miss Devine sees a disturbing drawing he made of Sarah asking for help. After a meeting with Peter's parents, they dismiss her worries, leaving her frustrated about the situation.

At school, Peter is bullied by Brian, who destroys his prized pumpkin. Influenced by Sarah, Peter retaliates by pushing Brian down the stairs, resulting in Brian breaking his leg.

After being expelled from school for his actions, Peter's parents punish him by locking him in the basement behind a refrigerator. While confined, he discovers a mysterious pit covered by a grate.

Miss Devine visits Peter to check on him, aware that something is not right. However, Mark intimidates her away, claiming injuries are due to home repairs, further escalating the tensions.

When Peter is finally released from the basement, he reconnects with Sarah, who claims to be his older sister. She reveals that their parents abandoned her and plants the fear that they intend to harm Peter too.

Manipulated by Sarah, Peter decides the only way to save himself is to eliminate his parents. He secretly slips rat poison into their soup during dinner, resulting in their tragic demise.

With his parents dead, Peter unlocks a hidden door behind the grandfather clock, allowing Sarah to emerge. However, she reveals her true nature, explaining that she had manipulated Peter for revenge against their parents.

Brian, along with his cousins, confronts Peter at the house in a bid for revenge for the fall he suffered. However, they all meet a gruesome fate at the hands of Sarah, who shows her true viciousness.

Miss Devine arrives after receiving a call from Peter, leading to a chaotic confrontation with Sarah. Together, they manage to imprison Sarah back in the pit, but she ominously warns Peter that she will eventually escape.
