An elderly man with a walker navigates through a city overrun by undead in search of a new pair of shoes. His walker serves as a weapon, and his grip on reality wavers as he hears voices from the talking frame. He pushes on through danger toward a fragile goal amidst collapse.

Fred encounters a nurse who has just been bitten and she immediately transforms into a zombie. He is forced to flee the mall as chaos erupts and the undead flood the shopping center. The encounter shows how quickly infection spreads from a single bite.

Outside the mall, Jon, a skilled shooter, agrees to help Fred escape the outbreak. The two form a wary alliance as they navigate through zombie-infested streets toward safety. Their plan remains precarious as danger closes in.

Back in the city, Rot Worms carried by the blood he shed during the bridge fight quickly overpower the Brain Worms. Fred begins to transform into a zombie as the infection asserts itself. The reversal underscores the brutal stakes of the outbreak and the fragility of any hope for cure.

The next day, Jon—unaware he is infected with Brain Worms after Fred patted him on the back—discovers Fred’s transformation. He attempts to shoot Fred to stop the spread, but the surrounding zombies overwhelm him. The moment severs any possibility of saving Fred at this point.

Eight days into the outbreak, Benjamin searches the city for his wife, who is among the survivors. Larry is attacked and a misfired shot from one son kills him; later, Benjamin is killed by a zombie while trying to bring his wife back. The nurse, revealed to be Benjamin’s wife, approaches only to be decapitated by another zombie.

Hac is sent by his bitten friend Mac to find an antidote. Mac believes the old man’s prune juice bottle holds the cure, and both men die before proving it. The bottle, however, later reveals an antidote called Zombifate that could save them.

Three survivors who call themselves the Sanitation crew drive a bus and use flesh dangling from the rod to lure zombies. They systematically kill the undead as Fred watches in stunned silence. The bus scene ends when more zombies overwhelm them, forcing Fred to flee again.

The old man reunites with Fred and urges him to resist the infection’s influence. Fred manages to momentarily hold back the parasite and protect the old man, but the elder dies of a heart attack soon after. The moment marks a turning point as Fred commits to the fight for survival.
