Raja, the grandson of a wealthy businesswoman, spends his days in London before returning to a rural village in India to visit his grandmother. There, Chembaruthi is the sister of Pandi, a poor fisherman who works in the grandmother’s house. The two meet at Raja’s birthday party, and it is love at first sight for Raja. Their connection deepens quickly as they begin to spend more time together, sharing smiles, small gestures, and quiet conversations that reveal a growing bond far beyond a casual flirtation. The village mood, the close-knit community, and the memory of Raja’s glamorous life in London all color their early moments, making their romance feel both urgent and fragile.
Raja’s grandmother has a different plan in mind: she pressures him to marry Malathy, the daughter of Murugan, a wealthy seafood exporter. At the party, the family announces Raja’s interest in Malathy, which sets the stage for a clash of worlds. Raja realizes that his love for Chembaruthi, the daughter of a poor fisherman, isn’t seen with favor by the elder relative who controls his fortunes. The tension intensifies when she confronts Pandi, accusing him of using his sister’s beauty to trap Raja for money. The accusation stings, and she goes further by offering Pandi cash to make Chembaruthi stop seeing Raja.
Pandi feels humiliated by the public rebuke and responds with anger, insulting Raja’s grandmother in turn. The heated exchange creates a deepening stalemate that jeopardizes the couple’s fragile happiness. Amid the escalating pressure, Raja’s grandmother presses him toward Malathy, hoping to seal business ties with Murugan’s wealth. Meanwhile, Murugan’s world expands to include a betrothal for his own sister to Kumar, a fisherman, further entwining the fates of the two families.
Determined to be together, Raja and Chembaruthi run away from home, choosing love over convenience and social expectation. The search to recover the missing couple becomes a dramatic race against time, with a public reward announced for Raja’s return. Murugan, driven by greed and the possibility of securing the prize money, joins with his goons to find them, and the lovers are abducted and confined aboard a boat. A tense confrontation unfolds as Raja fights to protect Chembaruthi, rescuing her from a perilous drowning in the sea.
The peril ultimately becomes the turning point that convinces the elder generation to rethink their priorities. Seeing the strength and sincerity of the young lovers’ bond, Raja’s grandmother relents, and she, along with Pandi, comes to accept the romance. The family’s blessing is given, and the union of Raja and Chembaruthi is celebrated as a bridge between two different worlds: one of wealth and influence, the other of love and resilience. In the end, the lovers’ commitment endures, and the community bears witness to a romance that prevails over envy, social expectations, and the fear of losing what truly matters.
