Caged

Carole plays hide and seek with her friend Laura. She discovers Laura dead in a garage, a dog having killed her. The same dog then lunges at Carole, forcing her to hide inside a car to survive.

Carole, along with doctors Samir and Mathias, work as volunteers in the war-torn region of the former Yugoslavia. After several months they begin their journey back to France, but a roadblock forces them to detour. Shortly after, masked captors abduct them and lock them away in a cellar.

The trio is kept in a basement with multiple cells, while other prisoners are also held nearby. A doctor visits the captives occasionally, but language barriers prevent them from learning why they were kidnapped. The sense of isolation deepens as days turn into an indistinguishable stretch of captivity.

Samir is suddenly dragged away by the captors. A short time later, Carole and Mathias see Samir's corpse as the captors drive past, his eyes and other organs removed. The group realizes they are dealing with organ dealers.

Mathias manages to loosen a lattice window with a mattress spring and makes a desperate bid for freedom. His attempt fails when the captors notice, and the window is welded shut with a metal plate.

Carole is taken to the surgery room where the doctor aims to remove her eyes. She frees her hand and stabs the doctor with a scalpel, showing fierce resistance. She then secures a bolt cutter, preparing to fight her way toward freedom.

Carole must pass a corridor filled with chained dogs on her route to escape. She enters an apartment above the basement and engages in a brutal duel with a stout woman, ultimately drowning her in a bowl to escape.

Carole frees Mathias and a girl named Ana. Mathias kills one kidnapper with the bolt cutter, and the trio flees into the forest together, hoping to reach safety.

Three dogs are released to pursue them. Mathias, badly wounded, can no longer keep up and is killed by the remaining two dogs after a stubborn confrontation. Carole and Ana press on, grief and determination driving them forward.

Carole lures the pursuing dogs toward a grenade’s cord, triggering the explosion that kills the animals. The blast leaves Carole briefly deaf, but the danger still looms as she and Ana push onward.

Carole and Ana sprint into a cornfield as one kidnapper with a rifle closes in. The other finds Ana and drags her away, but Carole kills the assailant with a stone. They hide, but the last kidnapper shoots Carole in the stomach; she rams a wooden stake into his foot, seizes his rifle, and shoots him dead.

Two soldiers arrive and carry Carole and Ana to safety. Ana’s presence serves as a haunting reminder of Carole’s childhood friend Laura, anchoring the traumatic memories in her mind as they move toward recovery.
