Three years prior, Adam Jones (Bradley Cooper) was a rising star in one of Paris’s top restaurants, owned by his mentor, Jean-Luc. However, his unchecked drug abuse and obsessive quest for culinary perfection led to both his and the restaurant’s downfall, shattering the dreams and careers of those around him. Following a period of self-imposed exile in New Orleans, where he spent his time shucking a staggering one million oysters, Adam makes the bold decision to return to London in hopes of reclaiming his lost glory and achieving his coveted third Michelin star.

Upon his arrival in London, Adam reconnects with former colleagues, starting with Tony (Daniel Brühl), who now runs his father’s hotel. It quickly becomes clear that Tony harbors mistrust towards Adam due to his checkered past, particularly since he had been absent for Jean-Luc’s funeral. Unbeknownst to Adam, this tragic event has haunted him, leaving him to grapple with remorse for the pain he inadvertently caused his mentor. Adam’s journey also leads him to Conti ([Henry Goodman]), the owner of another restaurant, where he discovers his attraction to sous-chef Helene (Sienna Miller). However, she finds Adam to be arrogant and out of touch.

In his quest to gather a team, Adam seeks out Michel (Omar Sy), a friend from his past whose betrayal still lingers: Adam had tried to sabotage Michel’s restaurant out of jealousy. Surprisingly, Michel forgives Adam and agrees to join him. Adam also plans to enlist Max (Riccardo Scamarcio), another protégé of Jean-Luc, when he is released from prison. Yet, Adam’s return begins to reveal ghosts from his past, including his old drug dealer, a figure whose presence threatens to pull him back into the life he’s striving to escape.

When he takes a chance and contacts acclaimed restaurant critic Simone ([Uma Thurman]), Adam’s fate begins to shift. Seeking an opportunity to showcase his culinary skills, he invites her to the hotel. Although initially resistant, Tony ultimately agrees to let Adam prove himself. Following a positively received review, Tony’s family decides to renovate their kitchen and appoint Adam as head chef, albeit under the condition of regular drug testing with the hotel’s psychiatrist, Dr. Rosshilde. Adam’s struggle to maintain sobriety becomes an ongoing thread, as he battles his inner demons while preparing for the grand opening of his restaurant, Langham’s.

As the highly anticipated opening night approaches, tensions run high, resulting in an unfortunate disaster where Adam’s relationship with Helene deteriorates. Following a series of confrontations, including a particularly humiliating exchange, Helene resigns. However, Adam does not wallow in despair. To draw attention to Langham’s, he starts appearing on talk shows, eventually luring another prominent food critic, whose glowing review brings unexpected success to the restaurant.

Yet, enjoying newfound fame and fortune doesn’t come without its complications. Adam’s rivalry with Reece, a fellow chef, resurfaces, further complicating his return to the culinary scene. Panicked, Tony approaches Helene, revealing more about Adam’s tumultuous upbringing and his struggles with emotional volatility. Helene, moved by the context of Adam’s behavior, decides to return to Langham’s, where Adam makes sincere efforts to treat her with the respect she deserves.

When the opportunity arises for Adam to attend the reopening of Reece’s restaurant, he invites Helene, only to face uncomfortable reminders of their shared past. Encountering Anne Marie ([Alicia Vikander]), Jean-Luc’s daughter, brings back sentiments of guilt for Adam. Their reunion prompts him to reflect on his past mistakes, including the loss of his mentor, as well as the challenges he faced during his darkest days.

In an emotional turn of events, Adam and Helene share a kiss, yet their moment of triumph is swiftly overshadowed by the reappearance of Adam’s past—a confrontation with his former drug dealer that leads him to experience a downward spiral. After a night of recklessness, during which he nearly succumbs to despair, he finds refuge in Reece’s restaurant, where a surprising camaraderie develops, leading him to make amends with his former rival.

Ultimately, Adam learns that both his personal and professional journeys are intrinsically linked. With support from Helene and his team, he transforms his approach to leadership and running the kitchen. When the real Michelin judges arrive for their review, they collaborate to deliver an exceptional meal, culminating in the joyous announcement that Langham’s has earned its third Michelin star. Together, Adam and Tony celebrate this hard-won success, marking a profound turning point in Adam’s life as he finally begins to embrace the healthy relationships and responsibilities he had long neglected.
