The film opens with a montage of youths training in tai chi, narrated to explain the discipline's rigors. It notes that mastery can make the body impregnable to weapons, but brings the side effects of white hair by age thirty and a higher-pitched voice. The scene establishes the world of the Lei Ping Kung Fu school and the high stakes of commitment to practice.

Two Chin Yin Chi thugs chase and beat an old man in front of his daughter. Ming Tu, the lead student, interrupts the assault and drives them off. One fellow student is mortally wounded, and the thugs warn that Chin Yin Chi will be back for revenge.

Ming Tu escorts the old man and his daughter back to the Lei Ping school, where the wise master takes them under his protection. The school becomes a sanctuary amid ongoing threats. The attack solidifies the resolve to defend the vulnerable at all costs.

Chief Chin and Chin Pa come to the Lei Ping school demanding the old man be handed over. The master refuses, signaling the start of a deadly feud. Tension rises as the invaders threaten force if their demand is not met.

The master selects Ming Tu as his successor and faces the aggressors. He fights valiantly but is overpowered and killed. The old man, keeping an oath of peace, takes up a sword for the first time in twenty years and leaps into battle, only to be slain as well.

With the master's death, Ming Tu assumes leadership of the school and promises to uphold the master's plan. He commits to continuing the school’s legacy and taking revenge against the Chin Yin Chi clan. The loss deepens the clan's resolve to endure and fight back.

The master's daughter meets an old nun who explains how to find Chief Chin's weak point when he is not himself. With the nun’s guidance, Sa Chien discovers that Chief Chin has a single vulnerable spot, but coaxing him to expose it remains nearly impossible unless he is in an altered state. The knowledge offers a potential path to victory, but its realization is uncertain.
