Boar (2017) – Full Plot Summary & Ending Explained

Read the complete plot breakdown of Boar (2017), including all key story events, major twists, and the ending explained in detail. Discover what really happened—and what it all means.

A couple is cruising through the dusty, sun-scorched roads of the Outback, when they narrowly miss a rabbit and are suddenly caught in the shadow of a feral pig stampede. A colossal, man-eating boar—almost the size of a rhinoceros—impacts their truck, tearing through metal and life, and the would-be mates are killed in an instant.

Months later, a family pulls together for a road trip of their own. Bruce, the father, Debbie, the mother, along with their children, Bart and Ella, head toward the edge of town to visit their uncle, Bernie, who runs a farm nearby. Ella brings along her boyfriend, Robert, hoping for a little respite and a lot of space away from the city’s noise. The trip is meant to be a simple family excursion, but danger is already stalking the landscape.

That night, a local farmer out searching for his missing dog stumbles upon the same monstrous boar. It breaches a barb-wire fence and viciously kills the man and his dog, leaving a trail of brutal, gnawed remnants in the moonlit scrub. The danger continues to grow as the boar targets others who choose to camp nearby. A pair of campers, Ryan and his lover Hanna, are attacked, and Hanna is torn apart in a chilling act of primal ferocity.

In the nearby wilderness, Ken, father to the local pub owner Sasha, heads into the night with his friend Blue when they spot the raiding beast. They manage to scare it off with a gunshot, only to discover the grisly aftermath—two campers killed and mutilated. Blue is sent back to fetch more ammo, but the boar ambushes him, ending his life. Ken continues the search for the remaining campers, and finds Matt and Sherry under siege. The boar’s assault leaves Sherry severely injured and Matt dead, forcing Ken to improvise a desperate fight to lure the creature away. The sudden, merciless brutality of the attack underscores how little protection a small group has against such a monster.

As Bernie tries to enjoy a rare day with his family, he steps away briefly to locate Ken and Blue, only to have his own truck rammed by the same beast. Wounded but alive, he loads a rifle and resolves to protect those he loves. Sasha heads out to search for her father, while [Robert] and [Bruce] join the chase, hoping to salvage a dangerous situation. They encounter the boar, and Bruce is killed after Robert makes a grim choice to leave him behind. Bernie, arriving moments later, fires at the creature, but the boar rages on, enraged by the shooting and the loss of its prey.

The storm of violence escalates as Ella, Bart and Debbie reunite with Robert, only to watch him fall to the wounded boar. Bernie rushes back to guide the trio to safety, but night has fallen, and the search for a plan becomes a desperate sprint. The boar surges forward as Bernie fights to buy his loved ones time. He lands a blow, but the beast overpowers him with a brutal trampling that leaves him downed but not defeated in spirit. The two women scramble to build fires and fend off the beast, yet the flames barely slow the monster, which rips at Ella and tears at the protection of torches.

Just when it seems the nightmare might end, Sasha arrives and crashes the danger with a heavy truck, wounding the boar and giving the others a moment of hope. Debbie then takes advantage of the moment, loading Sasha’s shotgun and delivering the fatal shot that finally ends the reign of terror. The survivors, bruised and exhausted, discover Bernie and Bart alive but grievously wounded as they begin to drive away toward safety. But the danger isn’t over—the looming silhouette of another colossal boar hints that the threat may not be finished, as the camera lingers on the rising squeal before fading to black.
