During a nocturnal pursuit on a desert road, a woman is handed a gun with one bullet. She loads it and aims at the approaching car, hoping to stop it. The vehicle collides with her, ending the immediate confrontation.

Roberta 'Bobbi' Torres drives her 1977 Ford Mustang down a desert highway as a new day begins. Her sister Anna calls, urging her to leave the abusive Rhett. The conversation sparks Bobbi's anger and strengthens her resolve to break free.

At a remote gas station a sheriff offers Bobbi a soda, which she declines. Anna's call repeats, drawing a sharp comparison between Rhett and their father and fueling Bobbi's anger. She steels herself to keep moving.

The sheriff pulls Bobbi over, accuses her of damaging his light-bar, and extorts $300 while confiscating her phone. The encounter plants a dangerous dynamic that will haunt her journey. Bobbi's impatience grows as she tries to reason her way out.

Back at the gas station, the ATM is broken and Bobbi's card is declined. An attendant offers a beer and warns her to leave the county before the sheriff closes in, adding to her sense of danger. The stage is set for a tense, escalating chase.

The sheriff ambushes Bobbi, shoots out her car lights and tire, and takes her license before forcing her car off the road. Bobbi escapes on foot and resumes the struggle to survive as the chase resumes.

In a diner, Bobbi steals change to call Rhett, who accuses her of infidelity and hangs up. She meets a waitress, Amy, but the sheriff arrives and traps her inside, intensifying the danger around her.

The sheriff reveals his crimes and ancestry, revealing Ed as his son and a history of abuse. The knife he wields is said to be made from his mother's jawbone, offering a perverse sense of 'freedom' that Bobbi refuses.

The sheriff mutilates Bobbi after she provokes him; she wakes to find Ed and the sheriff gone and retrieves a jawbone knife to aid her escape. The brutal confrontation leaves her battered but determined to survive.

Stumbling to a road, Bobbi is pursued by the cruiser, which offers water and a gun with one bullet. She loads the gun, appears to shoot herself, but finds no head wound, then uses the jawbone knife to stab the sheriff and steal his cruiser.

She escapes in the cruiser and drives toward the sheriff, who is knocked aside as he tries to pursue. He runs out of bullets because he forgot his clip in the car, allowing Bobbi to press on toward safety.

At a garage, Bobbi retrieves her tongue and packs it in ice for possible reattachment, underscoring the brutal toll of the ordeal. The moment is followed by a sudden confrontation as Ed appears.

Startled by Ed, Bobbi kills him with a wrecking bar and escapes the immediate danger. She then collects all the drivers' licenses of past victims to use as evidence, and Rhett's calls are discarded as she drives toward the city lights as dawn breaks.
