Sam works as a theme park mechanic at RoboWorld in New York and secretly hopes to propose to his girlfriend Sue Widdington with a dazzling ring. He shares his dream with his three robotic creations Kit, Okra and Wilmer, who cheerfully support his plan to become a hero in Sue's eyes. As Valentine’s Day approaches, Sam buys an expensive ring and starts planning a spectacular moment.

Kit, Okra and Wilmer also long to be popular heroes, not just props in Sam's life. They practice stunts and brainstorm ways to boost their status alongside Sam. The trio’s ambitions add a lighthearted energy to the city’s robotic orbit around RoboWorld.

During a routine shift, the infamous villain Oscar and his robot henchman Victor rob another valuable ring at RoboWorld. Oscar’s fixation with Mayor Catherine provides motive for a larger plot beyond a simple theft. The theft sets off a chain of schemes that threaten Sam’s Valentine’s plan.

Oscar tries to force Catherine to accept his proposal in her office, but she rejects him. With Victor’s help, he escapes, intensifying his vendetta against the mayor and stirring more citywide trouble. The caper widens the villains’ reach beyond RoboWorld.

After the ring is stolen, Oscar remakes it into a remote control for all his robots, including Victor. He plans to use the device to bend RoboWorld and the city to his will, with Catherine’s acceptance as a trigger. The ring becomes the critical control element of his robo-army.
