The film opens with a vivid video of a couple in a tryst. Lexi Ross is introduced with her mother Michelle and her older brother Shane, revealing a fragile family dynamic. Shane's addiction problems loom large, signaling the challenges Lexi will face.

Lexi starts dating Greg Nickels, who has just dumped his previous girlfriend Carleigh Taylor. They decide to have sex, unaware Greg is fulfilling a bet with his friend Jared. The bet involves filming their tryst, which will set off a chain of betrayals.

Just after leaving, Lexi is hit by a car and dies. The moment is witnessed by Greg, Jared, and numerous partygoers, leaving everyone stunned. Greg and Jared are among the first to react with shock and grief.

Police officers inform Michelle and Shane about the death, prompting a search for justice. Shane pushes for Greg's arrest on charges of child pornography and rape, while Detective Morris claims the teens were consenting, complicating the pursuit of justice.

Greg is summoned to the principal's office; he denies distributing the video, suspecting Carleigh. Carleigh is questioned with her father, and her accused role is explored. Greg is suspended; a heated confrontation with Carleigh ends with him calling her a psycho.
