The film opens with Nikki, a young woman who recently downloaded Mr. Bedevil, dying from a shock-induced heart attack after being stalked by a paranormal presence. The death establishes the dangerous, supernatural tone surrounding the app.

After Nikki's funeral, Cody, Alice, Gavin, Haley, and Dan all receive invitations to download Mr. Bedevil. They decide to install the app, curious or desperate to understand the phenomenon. The group quickly starts experiencing disturbances linked to their fears.

Once downloaded, the app torments the group with manifestations of their fears, clearly testing the limits of their sanity. The terror feels invasive as the entity seems to interact through their devices. The friends start to feel watched as the app asserts control over their phones and surroundings.

As the hauntings continue, the friends discover brands on their bodies in the shape of Mr. Bedevil's app icon, linking the attacks to the enigmatic program. They realize the entity is progressing from digital threat to a tangible presence that could end their lives. The group understands that Mr. Bedevil's goal is to kill them.

Deciding to seek help, they go to the police, hoping to end the threat. However, Mr. Bedevil possesses the police, making the investigation impossible to stop through ordinary means. The haunting's reach expands to law enforcement.

The app manipulates events to lure Gavin to Alice's house, and he is killed by clowns, a cruel reflection of his fears. This shocking murder shows the entity's ability to materialize acts of violence. The remaining friends realize the threat is not purely digital.

The group recovers Nikki's phone and learn that Nikki received the invitation from Samuel Price, her former physics tutor and pseudoscience enthusiast. This connection hints at a deliberate link between the app and a human conduit behind the haunting. The group decides to investigate Sam's involvement.

Alice and Cody go to Sam's house, where they find Sam's dead body and audiotapes documenting his research identifying Mr. Bedevil as a paranormal presence that uses the app to enter reality, similar to a Ouija board. The evidence confirms a supernatural origin beyond mere software.

Haley and Dan are both murdered by Mr. Bedevil in ways that mimic their fears, escalating the group's terror. Their deaths demonstrate the app's ability to translate psychological fear into lethal action. The remaining friends realize the threat is intensifying.

Cody discovers it might be possible to uninstall Mr. Bedevil from their phones by writing code. Because the app can rewrite its firmware, he learns that uninstalling only works when the app enters the physical world by connecting to the phone's hardware.

Alice and Cody set a trap at a warehouse using two separate computer stations to perform the uninstall. They succeed in uninstalling Mr. Bedevil from Alice's phone, showing the method can work under controlled conditions.

The second computer station's uninstall program fails to penetrate Cody's phone's extra security, and Cody is killed as the entity persists. The trap ends with a fatal consequence, underscoring the app's adaptability.

In the final scene, Alice is in college and FaceTiming her mother, only to discover that her mother is now using the Mr. Bedevil app herself. The cycle implies the haunting will continue beyond Nikki's circle.
