In Emerald Bay, Florida, Lt. Mitch Buchannon begins his day leading the elite lifeguard division known as Baywatch. He is well-respected in the community, boasting an impressive record of over 500 rescues, which garners admiration and sometimes tension with local law enforcement.

During a routine patrol, Mitch encounters a suspicious pouch of drugs washed ashore near the Huntley Club. This discovery prompts concerns about the establishment, recently acquired by business mogul Victoria Leeds, and indicates potential criminal activity in the area.

The Baywatch lifeguard tryouts take place, showcasing talents of various candidates. Among them are Summer Quinn, who has a complicated past with Stephanie Holden, and the socially awkward Ronnie, alongside the arrogant former athlete Matt Brody, who believes his fame guarantees him a position.
