Bardelys the Magnificent

During the reign of King Louis XIII, Comte de Chatellerault Roy D’Arcy wagers his estate against the notorious rake Marquis de Bardelys John Gilbert that Bardelys cannot win Roxalanne de Lavedan Eleanor Boardman within three months, a challenge the king Arthur Lubin forbidden from pursuing. On the road toward the Lavedan estate, Bardelys encounters René de Lesperon Theodore von Eltz, a fatally wounded man who asks Bardelys to say farewell to his beloved.
