Bandolero!

A gang arrives in Val Verde intent on robbing the bank. Their plan immediately triggers a fierce shootout with local authorities. In the chaos, Babe Jenkins kills a wealthy civilian—the husband of Maria Stoner.

The botched heist ends with the gang being arrested by local law enforcement. The pursuit subsides as the town reels from the raid and the violence. The arrest marks the immediate fallout of the Val Verde affair.

Staying at an inn in a neighboring town, Mace Bishop learns of the Val Verde incident from the hangman. He steals the hangman's clothes and imitates his manner of speaking, then heads to Val Verde to free his brother.

On the day of the execution, Mace convinces Sheriff July Johnson to take every attendant's gun, claiming it will keep the event safer. The ruse buys time and enables the gang to escape from the gallows.

The gang escapes with a posse in pursuit, while Mace slips away to rob a bank on his own. His separate crime marks a rogue turn for the brother who is already undercover as the hangman.

Dee captures Maria after they come across her wagon on the road. He uses her as a hostage to pressure the pursuers and keep the fugitives moving.

The posse, led by Sheriff Johnson and deputy Roscoe Bookbinder, chases the fugitives into bandolero territory across the Mexican border. Maria warns that bandoleros are out to kill gringos and that the sheriff will follow because they have taken her.

As they travel through dangerous territory, Dee protects Maria from the others and she begins to fall for him. Her feelings grow despite her lingering loyalty to the sheriff and her late husband.

The posse corners the gang in an abandoned town and captures them. Bandoleros arrive, shooting and killing Roscoe Bookbinder, forcing the sheriff to release the outlaws to defend against the attack.

A fierce battle erupts as bandits press the attack. Dee is fatally stabbed by Angel after defending Maria from a rape attempt. Mace is wounded in the fighting, and Babe and Robbie O'Hare die among the gunfire and chaos.

Maria grabs Dee's pistol and shoots Angel dead, sending the bandoleros into retreat. She then shares a final moment with Dee as he dies, professing her love in the quiet aftermath.

Mace returns the money to Sheriff Johnson, then dies from the wound he sustained earlier. His act ensures some measure of restitution before his death.

Maria and the sheriff bury the Bishop brothers and the dead posse members. Maria notes that no one will know who was there, underscoring the cost of their night of violence.

With the embers of conflict fading, Maria and the remaining survivors begin the ride back to Texas, left to reckon with what transpired.
