Hester Bevins, a naive country girl yearning for adventure, abandons her devoted boyfriend Jerry and moves to New York. There she becomes the lover of a rich, unscrupulous businessman. When Jerry returns from the war, blinded and near death, Hester faces a choice between her newfound life and the loyalty of the man who never left her.
