Their mission takes them toward a firing range where cutting-edge weapon systems are put to the test, and the ship’s power dynamics reveal a trade-off: immense firepower fed by the ship’s own energy while requiring a careful cooldown before the next burst. During this tense demonstration, Sheridan is visited in a waking dream by Galen, the elusive Technomage, who paints a stark picture of a ruined world, Daltron 7, wiped out by a massive attack. The vision lingers as a reminder that there are forces at work beyond human hands, and that the galaxy is watching even as the Drakh loom on the horizon.

Dureena Nafeel, Carrie Dobro, arrives on Babylon 5 as a roguish thief with a strict code, seeking the Thieves Guild and the freedom it promises. She is quickly apprehended by the station’s security, but her credentials open doors rather than close them, allowing her to ply her trade under guild rules while offering a chance to prove her usefulness. In her dreams, Galen repeats his warning: she must choose her targets carefully when the moment to act arrives, because missteps could have consequences that ripple across the galaxy. The orbiting tension between trust and necessity threads through her arc as she becomes a crucial link in the plan to counter the coming threat.

On the firing range, Lionel Drake, Tony Maggio, showcases Excalibur’s remarkable capabilities. The ship channels energy from its entire hull into a single, devastating burst, a feat achieved by harnessing the reverse-engineered tech and redirecting it with precision. The test, however, also exposes a vulnerability: a recovery period of about a minute leaves Excalibur temporarily underpowered. Sheridan’s mind returns to Galen’s warnings, and the dream’s influence grows stronger as he contemplates what the Drakh’s return could mean for Earth. Galen’s presence is a persistent thread, reminding Sheridan that the Technomages have watched the galaxy for decades and that a shadowy danger will soon emerge from the Drakh.

Seeking allies, Sheridan travels to Babylon 5 and shares the visions with security and senior staff. Dureena is processed and quickly integrated into the discussion, and the crew realizes they will need her unique set of skills to navigate a threat that blends magic, deception, and military power. Captain Anderson of the EarthForce destroyer Charon—Tony Todd, in a notable crossover of roles—arrives to coordinate efforts with Sheridan and the situation on Babylon 5. The team learns that Dureena is a refugee from Zander Prime, a world destroyed during the Shadow War, and she initially assigns blame to Sheridan for what happened in her past. But knowledge of the Drakh and their plan gradually shifts her perspective, and she becomes a willing participant in the dangerous mission to see Earth protected.

The plan takes a dramatic turn when the crew journeys to the shipyards and commandeers Excalibur and Victory for a direct approach to Daltron 7. They discover the world scarred by a recent attack, and the Drazi, represented here by a fallen member whose records reveal the Drakh’s recent destruction, lie at the heart of the mystery. It becomes clear that the Drakh possess a Shadow planet killer—a weapon of planetary scale—and their attack on Daltron 7 was a prelude to striking Earth. Garibaldi, at last catching up to the shipyard, reluctantly joins the pursuit, towing Drake along in a tense chase that foreshadows the broader conflict to come.

In Earth space, Sheridan and Anderson confront the Drakh fleet as the invaders maneuver with ominous speed. The Drakh quickly intercept a coded message and begin fleeing, forcing Excalibur and Victory to pursue. A heated battle ensues, and Sheridan warns EarthGov to mobilize the entire fleet as they uncover a dangerous ruse: Drake, a Mars citizen, is revealed to be an informant feeding the Drakh crucial details about Earth’s defenses. Drake’s capture precipitates a dramatic shift in the battle’s dynamics and the momentum tilts toward Earth’s advantage as Garibaldi confirms the source of the leak.

With the Drakh invasion pressing closer to Earth, Sheridan and Anderson push their fleets into a decisive confrontation. The battle explodes across space as Earth and Alliance ships coordinate their counterattack, and a crucial objective emerges: to cripple the Drakh command structure by striking at the Shadow planet killer itself. Dureena uses her guile to locate the master control hub just as Victory suffers a critical blow to its weapons systems. In a daring move, Anderson’s crew drives Victory into the planet killer’s control hub, triggering its premature activation. The device detonates in a controlled collapse, destroying the killer and most of the Drakh assault fleet, and allowing Earth’s forces to retreat with heavy losses and a rebuilt sense of hope. However, a remnant Drakh fleet escapes into Earth orbit, releasing a sinister black gaseous weapon that envelops the planet.

Back aboard Babylon 5, Lochley informs Sheridan that Earth has been infected by a biological weapon engineered by the Shadows, a plague that could adapt to human physiology and potentially wipe out life on Earth within five years unless a cure is found. The stakes are nothing short of existential, and Sheridan resolves to act decisively. He transforms Excalibur into a dedicated research vessel, assembling a cadre of top scientists and experts from across galaxies to scour the known and unknown for some breakthrough—any sign of a cure or a technology that could reverse the plague’s effects. Galen appears at the station to offer his own arcane insight, lending his knowledge and spells to the scientific effort and signaling that the Technomages remain ready to intervene in ways that defy expectation. The path ahead remains perilous, but the resolve to save Earth is stronger than ever, and the crew prepares for a long, arduous mission through a galaxy that has just become much more dangerous—and infinitely more hopeful.
