Shekhar was urgently called to the United States on the same day his daughter Sunitha met with an accident. This family emergency forced him to leave his lab and research unattended, which is why Devan was able to access the invisibility potion unguarded. The timing of Maya's kidnapping coinciding with Shekhar's absence created the perfect opportunity for Devan to use the experimental potion.

Foreshadowing: Shekhar's departure left his lab accessible, directly enabling Devan's discovery and use of the potion.
