Asterix and the Big Fight

During the rescue attempt to prevent Romans from capturing Getafix, Obelix accidentally hurls a menhir that strikes the druid directly on the head. This blow causes Getafix to develop amnesia and mental instability. Since Getafix is the only one who knows the magic potion formula, his memory loss leaves the village defenseless against Roman attacks.

Getafix recovers his memory when he brews a particularly noxious potion inside the village. The strong fumes from this concoction pervade the settlement and unexpectedly restore both his memories and his sanity. The same fumes also drive away the invading Romans, buying valuable time for the Gauls.

Prolix arrives during a raging storm, which creates an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty. He poses as a soothsayer and offers prophecies in exchange for food, drink, and later gold. The villagers, already anxious about losing Getafix's wisdom and facing Roman threats, become susceptible to his manipulation. His bold forecasts prey on their credulity during this vulnerable period.

Asterix and the villagers use a captured Roman guard as a test subject for one of Getafix's experimental potions. The concoction makes him so light that he floats upward and drifts back to the Roman camp. From there, he reports the village's weakened state to the Romans, revealing that Getafix cannot brew proper magic potion, making the village vulnerable.

Prolix predicts doom for anyone who remains in the village, claiming catastrophe is inevitable if the villagers stay. Terrified by his prophecies, all the villagers except Asterix, Obelix, Dogmatix, and Getafix retreat to a nearby island for safety. This evacuation gives the Romans an opportunity to seize control of the empty village.

Although Roman orders call for cracking down on Gaulish soothsayers, the local centurion finds Prolix useful. He decides to use Prolix as a tool to intimidate and cow the villagers through fear of the fake prophecies. The centurion believes keeping Prolix serves his military strategy better than arresting him.

The village women lead the assault on the Roman camp during the final battle. They demonstrate surprising ingenuity and resolve, catching the Romans off guard while Asterix and Obelix coordinate the counterattack. This coordinated effort by the women turns the tide of the skirmish against the Romans.

Prolix's fraud is exposed when the villagers test his prophecies by attacking the Roman camp. Since Prolix had no genuine prophetic abilities, he cannot predict this counterattack, revealing his con. In the chaos, Obelix hurls another menhir that strikes Prolix, toppling the fake soothsayer and shattering his credibility completely.

Once the floating Roman spy reports back that Getafix cannot brew the real magic potion due to his amnesia, the Romans realize the village is now vulnerable. Without the potion that gives Gauls their superhuman strength, the Romans believe they can finally seize control. This intelligence accelerates their plan to move in and capture the village.

Following the Gauls' victory and the Romans' retreat, the centurion faces serious consequences for his failure. He is demoted to private and ordered to clear up all the damage left behind. His Optio takes command and assumes responsibility for restoring order, while the defeated Romans retreat from the village.
