Apprentice

Transferred to Larangan Prison, Aiman steps into a high-security environment. His vocational training leads him to supervise the rehabilitating prisoners in the prison workshop, setting the tone for his new role.

While assisting a colleague with tasks near the gallows, Aiman meets Rahim, the Chief Executioner. The two men quickly form a bond as Rahim shares the ropes and practical preparation techniques used before executions.

At home, Aiman tells his sister Suhaila about meeting the hangman. The revelation strains their relationship because their father was executed decades ago, and they were raised by their grandfather. Aiman also disapproves of Suhaila's relationship with John.

At work, Joseph reveals he has stepped down as Rahim's assistant because he could not bring himself to pull the lever during an execution. Aiman agrees to become Rahim's new apprentice, beginning his education in the grim duties of the role.

Rahim teaches Aiman the tricks of the trade and shares his experience with him. Their mentor-mentee bond grows as Aiman starts to grasp the psychology and discipline required for handling death-row prisoners.

Aiman finally experiences an execution first-hand as he ushers Randy to the gallows and places his hands on the lever. Rahim offers Randy words of consolation before the drop, leaving Aiman distraught and reflective.

Distraught, Aiman tries to call Suhaila, but the call goes unanswered. He rushes home to find the house empty; Suhaila has presumably left for Australia with John.

Rahim checks Aiman's security clearance and discovers that Aiman's father had been executed in 1985. He recognizes him as someone he had executed long ago. The discovery triggers a confrontation about ethics and Aiman's fitness for the role.

The men clash as Aiman rejects the idea that his father's past should define him. Rahim admonishes him and hints at possible disciplinary action, throwing tension into their relationship and the project ahead.

Rahim is hospitalized after a road traffic accident, in critical condition. Assistant Superintendent James Tan puts Aiman in charge of an upcoming execution, signaling a possible turn in his career and placing him in the executioner's seat earlier than expected.

The next morning, Suhaila calls to confirm her arrival in Australia and asks whether Aiman will be charged. She reassures him that, as his sister, she will always be there for him.

The death-row inmate is ushered toward the gallows as observers gather. Aiman leads the inmate, places the noose around the neck, and presses the lever, triggering the trap doors. The screen cuts to black, leaving the outcome unresolved.
