Tom, a 14‑year‑old whose parents have just divorced, leaves his affluent Chicago home for a beach bungalow in Los Angeles with his aunt. Resentful of bohemian life, he befriends surfer Fin. Their partnership sparks a series of summer adventures that recall Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn tales, leaving Tom wiser and at home in California by summer’s end.
