Upon his death, Ja-hong is welcomed into the afterlife by three guardians: Hae Won-maek, Lee Deok-choon, and their leader Gang-rim. They inform him of the seven trials he must endure over 49 days to earn a chance at reincarnation.

Gang-rim discovers that Ja-hong's brother, Kim Soo-hong, has transformed into a vengeful spirit. The tragic circumstances of Soo-hong's death come into light, showing how hidden truths have influenced their family's suffering.

Soo-hong's transformation triggers vengeful thoughts directed at Dong-yeon and Lieutenant Park, who conceal the truth of his death. Gang-rim intervenes to save Soo-hong from a destructive path, demonstrating the power of brotherly connections.

Ja-hong and his guardians navigate through the Hell of Injustice and Hell of Betrayal without official judgment. This phase underscores their solidarity as they face misunderstandings and past hardships together.

In the Hell of Violence, Ja-hong is confronted with his past indiscretion of physically abusing Soo-hong during their youth. As he stands accused, he reflects on his family’s struggles and the dire circumstances that led to his regrettable actions.

Ja-hong's revelations about his mother facing maltreatment brings the trials to an emotional peak. The unfair treatment by Lieutenant Park enrages Soo-hong, leading him to channel his spirit's powers manifesting as a terrifying storm.

Upon reaching the Hell of Filial Impiety, Ja-hong is declared guilty after an emotional session. He grapples with the painful realization that his mother was aware of his dark contemplation of murder-suicide on a pivotal night.

Gang-rim and Soo-hong delve into their mother’s dreams, ultimately discovering her deep-seated forgiveness towards Ja-hong. This ultimately allows Ja-hong to gain acquittal, giving him hope for a second chance at life.

Gang-rim uncovers the deeper manipulations orchestrated by Yeomra regarding his investigation of Soo-hong. His resolve strengthens as he chooses Soo-hong as the final soul to pass through, bringing an end to their turbulent trials and connecting their fates.
