During a layover in Mumbai, Sonia learns the Singapore holiday is off. With her flight delayed, she decides to travel to Malaga instead, hoping to visit her mother's birthplace.

Sonia arrives in Malaga and hires Tony to show her around and help locate her mother's grave. As they tour the area, Tony begins to fall in love with her.

Tony's childhood friend Neena is secretly in love with him and resents how much time he spends with Sonia. Her presence foreshadows jealousy and potential conflict.

Flashbacks reveal Sonia's past romance with Prem Arya, an Indian journalist she met in Austria. Her father forbade their marriage because Prem is Indian, and the lovers part.

Sonia is shocked to find Prem in Malaga and learns that he has written an article praising their friendship. Sonia asks Tony to organize a lunch with Prem under the pretense of meeting the author.

During the lunch, Sonia confesses she still loves Prem and regrets leaving him to keep her father happy. Prem tells her there is nothing they can do and leaves.

Sonia and Prem begin spending time together, and Sonia tells her nanny that she loves Prem. Tony overhears this and, misinterpreting, believes Sonia is declaring love for him.

Sonia's father travels to Malaga, discovers Sonia's meetings with Prem, and forbids Prem from seeing her. He orders Sonia to return to Austria.

Sonia tells Tony she will return to Austria and invites him to join her. Tony agrees and starts planning a new life; Neena is upset, but Tony reassures her that he will help her afterward.

Sonia visits her mother's grave in Malaga and a priest reveals the true reason for her mother's return to Malaga. Sonia learns her mother sacrificed herself to keep them safe from illness.

At the airport, Tony tells Sonia he cannot go with her to Austria because Neena would be heartbroken if he left. He decides to stay and let Sonia pursue happiness with Prem.

Sonia's father, who had derided Indians, finally apologizes after hearing the truth about her mother. He tells them to marry Prem.

In a Malaga restaurant, Tony notices Sonia with Prem and pretends not to notice his own heartbreak. Prem advises Sonia to thank Tony and that some dreams are beautiful enough to preserve, letting Tony believe he gave up a prince for an ordinary girl.
