Chazz Ogilvie is kicked out of Kayla's apartment after she scolds him for being lazy, leaving him to cope with his failed living arrangement. He reunites with his siblings Rex and Pip, and the trio resolves to keep pushing their dream despite constant rejection from record producers. The setback sets the tone for their uphill battle in Los Angeles.

Desperate to get airplay, the Lone Rangers attempt a break-in through the back door of KPPX. Inside, DJ Ian 'The Shark' chats with them on the air, turning a break-in into a live broadcast. Station manager Milo overhears the chaos, but Ian keeps the feed going, escalating the confrontation.

Milo intervenes, but Ian continues broadcasting as the band pushes to be heard. The trio brandish realistic-looking water pistols filled with hot pepper sauce to press for airplay. The stunt heightens the tension and grabs the attention of staff and listeners alike.

An old reel-to-reel is set up to play the band's demo, but the tape jams and the demo is instantly destroyed when the player malfunctions. The trio tries to escape, but Beech has already alerted the police. The building ends up surrounded as they start rounding up Suzzi and the other employees.

Negotiations begin with the police trying to resolve the standoff while the hostage situation becomes public knowledge. News of the crisis travels fast, and fans gather outside the station, turning the incident into a chaotic spectacle. The crowd's presence complicates any attempt at a peaceful resolution.

A SWAT team arrives, with Carl Mace pushing for force while Sergeant O'Malley pursues negotiation. During the crisis, Milo's plan to switch KPPX's format from rock to adult contemporary is revealed, signaling a threat to the band's future at the station. Ian and several employees side with the Lone Rangers against Milo.

Kayla reaches the station with a cassette of the demo to hand over, hoping to salvage the situation. She had previously tossed the tape from a car, which has left it damaged. An argument between Chazz and Kayla escalates, ultimately destroying the studio console.

As the tension nears a breaking point, Rex's plastic gun is slammed shut in a moment that reveals it as a fake. Marcus and Carter hurry to safety and inform the SWAT team that the band’s weapons are not real, complicating the police response. The moment underscores the performative nature of the confrontation even as the stand-off continues.

Beech tries to corner the band from an air vent, but Ian knocks Beech's gun free. The weapon fires wildly, forcing the police to back off. In a rebellious gesture, Ian hands the improvised gun to Chazz after retrieving it.

Jimmie Wing arrives at the station and offers the band a contract, signaling a potential break into bigger stages. He arranges a stage and sound system to be airlifted onto the roof for a live performance amid a growing crowd. The reveal shows that only the PA system is real while other elements are props.

Refusing to lip-sync to their taped demo, the Lone Rangers smash their instruments in a bold protest. The crowd roars in approval as O'Malley's men allow fans through to reach the band. The moment culminates in a rooftop stage dive into the cheering audience.

The Lone Rangers perform a concert from prison, with Kayla and Suzzi dancing in the background, broadcast live on MTV. Ian, now their manager, mentions touring after their release in six months, or three if they behave themselves. The postscript reveals they will serve three months in prison for kidnapping, theft, and assault with hot pepper sauce, and their album Live in Prison goes triple platinum.
