Agilan works as a container crane operator at Chennai Port and uses his position to aid a drug smuggler, Paranthaman, who operates for the dangerous Kapoor. He leverages port operations to run illicit schemes and maintains a ruthless hold over his crew. This arrangement sets the stage for the port's intertwined criminal network.

After an assignment involving counterfeit-money containers goes wrong, Agilan kills officer Sarangan. His men stash the body in a body bag to hide the crime, demonstrating the ruthlessness that sustains his operation. The killing marks a turning point in his criminal activity at the port.

Jananathan, the union leader, publicly denounces Agilan's activities and threatens to expel him from the union. Agilan remains unfazed, continuing to leverage union power to shield his operations. The confrontation highlights the friction between labor leadership and organized crime.

Paranthaman orders Agilan to kill three temporary workers he had organized to murder the union leader. Agilan and his men attempt the killings, but the would-be assassins flee to the police station for protection. The failed hit raises the stakes and fuels a wider confrontation with authorities.

SI Madhavi, who secretly works for Agilan, engineers the arrest of the three workers under a non-bailable charge. The workers become pawns in the power struggle at the port and are used to justify the crackdown. This move deepens the tie between law enforcement and criminal enterprise.

Agilan handles an order to break out a container containing Chinese weapons, securing the illicit cargo. Pasupathy, Paranthaman's goon, ultimately retrieves the containers, underscoring the instability of control. Agilan grows suspicious of the two men handling the containers and asks Madhavi to spy on them. It turns out the men work for NIA officer Gokul, prompting Agilan to set a trap to outmaneuver Paranthaman and Gokul. This marks a strategic pivot in the port power struggle.

Gokul installs a surveillance setup and a security scanner at the port to monitor illicit activity. The new system heightens the stakes and raises the cost of misstep for both sides. It reshapes how smuggling and enforcement unfold across the port.

Kapoor expands the operation by planning illegal human trafficking, starting with an Austrian cyberterrorist named George Adams who holds confidential data on world leaders. This escalation widens the scope and danger of the criminal network. Adams's fate becomes a focal point for Agilan's tactical moves.

To move Adams without suffocation, Agilan proposes giving him oxygen and disguising him as a mannequin. The operation succeeds, and Adams is trafficked as part of Kapoor's network, elevating Agilan's status in the underworld—often described as becoming King of the Indian Ocean.

Paranthaman follows Agilan by sea and spots Jananathan speaking with him. They ally with Somalian sailors to sail the charity ship Tamilannai, signaling a new, more dangerous phase in the operation. The sea-front alliance expands the scope of their trafficking and influence.

Arasu captures Jananathan on Paranthaman's orders, removing a key obstacle to their plans. The capture escalates the power struggle and forces Agilan toward direct confrontation with Paranthaman. The ship's leadership is left reeling as leverage shifts.

Gokul knocks Agilan out, and the story shifts to a flashback where Agilan narrates his past. The past explains how his early life shaped a ruthless pragmatism and the choices that brought him to this moment. The present action is reframed through his memories.

As a young man, Nandhan, Agilan's father, a marine engineer, discovers funds on a ship and realizes there is illicit cargo. Gangsters Dilli and Manoj Kumar plot to smuggle cocaine, while Punitha urges a course to feed two million hungry people stranded on a desert island. Manoj Kumar shoots Nandhan as the ship sails, and the crew dumps his body and the food overboard, dooming the stranded people.

Punitha is arrested on a false charge and dies giving birth to Agilan in prison. This brutal episode seeds the complex mix of survival and power that defines Agilan's later life. The backward glance ties the origin of his character to the ship's tragedy.
