What Happens at the End of Agni?

Agni culminates in a tense showdown at the Mantralaya, where the fire‑chief Vitthal Rao finally pieces together the truth. After a string of suspicious blazes, he learns from his junior Avni that an obituary for Mahadev Vishwakarma Nigade appeared just before each fire, pointing to the firefighter’s own brother‑in‑law as the mastermind. Mahadev, driven by personal loss and a vendetta against a corrupt system, has been planting explosives in the very buildings his colleagues are sent to save.
When Vitthal realizes Mahadev’s next target is the Mantralaya—the site of a ceremony celebrating his brother‑in‑law Samit Sawant—he races to the building, hoping to protect his son Amya, who is attending with the family. Vitthal rescues Amya and, moments later, sees Samit trapped inside. Without hesitation, the fire chief plunges back into the collapsing structure, where he confronts Mahadev. He pleads for the madman to stop, but Mahadev is resolute.

In the struggle, Samit shoots Mahadev, ending the arsonist’s terror. The building then gives way, but both men are pulled to safety by their crews. As journalists swarm the scene, the deputy chief ready to hail Samit as the saviour. Instead, Samit steps forward and credits Vitthal Rao as the true hero, urging the police to salute the fire‑fighters. The gesture finally earns Amya’s respect; he understands the daily bravery and sacrifice his father lives for.
Thus, the film ends with the fire department receiving the recognition they have long been denied, and the family’s strained bonds mending through the acknowledgment of Vitthal’s relentless dedication.
