Vincent, born near Paris, has severed all ties to his past, while Maria, fifteen years younger, has distanced herself from her family in Ostia. They are a couple living a secluded life in contemporary Rome, seemingly self-sufficient and detached. They maintain a low profile, and their suburban apartment is lovingly decorated. However, their seemingly normal existence hides a carefully constructed plan: Vincent is assisting couples struggling with infertility. Maria eventually desires a family of her own, leading to a confrontation with Vincent and challenging the foundation of their unconventional relationship.
