Ae Fond Kiss...

The Khan family, originally from Pakistan, have lived in Glasgow for decades. Tariq and Sadia have arranged marriages for their children: Rukhsana with Amar, Casim with Jasmine, and Tahara with a proposed future for the family. The siblings begin to slowly resist their parents' control and seek independence.

Tahara is bullied at school, and Casim rushes after her, leading them into Roisin Hanlon's music room where she teaches singing. The chaotic moment ends with a guitar breaking, setting off a chain of events. This encounter marks the first spark between Casim and Roisin.

Casim brings Roisin a new guitar and helps her move her piano with friends, showing up at her life beyond the school. He invites her to spend time together and they eventually sleep together at Casim's apartment. Their relationship deepens despite the family’s expectations.

Roisin is offered a full-time teaching position and, in a moment of happiness, suggests a holiday in Spain for Casim. He lies to his family, claiming he must go to work in London, to cover up the truth about their relationship. The Spain trip becomes a turning point for them.

In Spain, Casim confesses to Roisin that his parents want him to marry his cousin, a plan that would threaten their relationship. He declares his true feelings for Roisin and decides to cancel the planned wedding, risking a wider family rift. Roisin is hurt by what she perceives as Casim’s prioritization of family duties over their love.

Back in Glasgow, Rukhsana reveals she is engaged to Amar. Casim confides in his friend Hammid, who warns him against pursuing a relationship that could break the family apart. Casim ultimately breaks up with Roisin to protect his family’s standing.

Casim discovers Tahara is being barred from Journalism studies in Edinburgh and begins to support her wish to study away from home. He moves in with Hammid and later unexpectedly meets Roisin in a cafe, but she avoids him. Their paths cross again, and the relationship rekindles.

Roisin seeks a certificate from the parish priest to teach, but is refused because she lives with Casim outside marriage. Despite the private life controversy, she secures a full-time position due to a warden's decision. News of Casim and Roisin’s relationship spreads, shattering family honour and leading Amar’s family to break off the engagement.

Rukhsana asks Roisin to leave Casim, but Roisin refuses. Roisin is informed she’s being transferred to a non-denominational school. Later, Jasmine re-enters through the family, and Roisin learns that the engagement was never broken, triggering distress and a public confrontation.

When Casim cannot stay with Roisin due to work commitments, she locks him out of their apartment. The next day he tries to contact her while his mother attempts to reach him, and Tahara briefly gets him on the line before silence returns.

Rukhsana brings Roisin to the family home to show her something, where Roisin sees Casim introduced to Jasmine. Rukhsana reveals the engagement was never broken, and Roisin flees in despair. Tahara then warns Casim about Roisin’s presence and asserts her own desire to study in Edinburgh.

Casim searches for Roisin all day and finally finds her at home, where she fears he will leave again. He reassures her that he will stay with her, promising to be by her side until old age. The couple commits to a life together despite the obstacles.
