When a pedestrian is hit by a bus, modest clerk Arandir runs to the scene and, moved by compassion, kisses the dying man in an act of pure, unconditional love. Opportunistic photographer Amado Pinheiro sees the moment, spots a chance to sell a sensational story, and, with the abusive police chief Cunha, falsely accuses Arandir of homosexuality.
