The film opens with a glimpse into the dark past of a cabin, originally occupied by Isaac, a slave owner. Isaac confronts his enslaved woman, Rosa, revealing the devastating truth about their son William's fate, leading to a tragic confrontation.

Devastated by Isaac's betrayal, Rosa stabs him repeatedly, crying out in pain about the loss of her son. In a moment of desperation, she hides the weapon in the fireplace, but faces the grim fate of lynching at a nearby hanging tree.

In the present, the owner of the cabin arrives to prepare for weekend renters but is met with a gruesome fate. A masked killer, known as Pleatherface, along with his mother, brutally murders her and hides her body before the renters arrive.

Alex proposes to Zoe by the fireplace, a moment filled with hope but is interrupted by local law enforcement. The sheriff warns them of a killer on the loose and extinguishes a taboo log taken from the hanging tree.

Tensions arise as Zoe reveals her anxieties about marriage, clashing with Alex over her mental health struggles. Their argument is cut short by the arrival of additional guests, throwing the dynamics into disarray.

Four unexpected guests, Ben, Beth, Holly, and Henry, arrive to investigate the cabin's dark past for their paranormal podcast. Unbeknownst to them, danger lurks as strange events begin to unfold around them.

The cursed yule log reignites on its own, leading to a tragic sequence of events. The log floats into the bathroom and unexpectedly bludgeons Ben to death while he is showering, further deepening the horror in the cabin.

Henry encounters a small man within the fireplace who leads him into a dimension allowing time travel. He is tricked into gruesomely killing his own mother, thereby erasing his existence and deepening the mystery of the cabin's past.

Back in the cabin, the remaining renters discover Ben's corpse, triggering panic. As Beth calls the police, she falls victim to the malevolent log, which cries out in Rosa's anguished voice, symbolizing the cabin's history.

Pleatherface and his mother attack the remaining renters, with Holly and Zoe suffering horrific abuse. The situation escalates when an alien arrives, brutally killing Pleatherface's mother before turning its attention to Alex.

In a desperate struggle, Zoe manages to use the hidden knife from the fireplace to defend herself. She frees herself from Pleatherface, turning the tide in a battle of survival against the horror in the cabin.

The little man in the fireplace entreats Zoe to alter her own history, promising release from her anxiety-ridden life. Ultimately, Zoe refuses his dark offer, affirming her choice to live and confront her fears.

Alex and Zoe trap the malevolent log and make their escape from the cabin. Their journey leads them past a gathering of cultists at the hanging tree, where Zoe makes a shocking discovery about the sheriff and deputy.

As Zoe accepts Alex's proposal at dawn, their moment is abruptly interrupted by the appearance of the sinister log. Suddenly, the film cuts to an Atlanta advertising agency, revealing Isaac's dual identity and his haunted past.

The office begins to burn, prompting a shift in identities as Isaac seeks forgiveness from Rosa. Amidst the chaos, the log shatters their reality, resulting in a fatal end for Zoe and Alex as the past consumes them.
