On a cold Christmas Eve in Alberta, Darren Mason and his family clash over wealth and the trappings of a privileged life as they sit down to a tense holiday dinner. Their moment of peace is brutally shattered when a crimson-clad visitor slides down the chimney: Santa arrives with a merciless appetite for carnage, turning festive cheer into graphic, holiday-themed violence. The matriarch, Virginia Mason, is drowned in a bowl of eggnog, the gleam of the Christmas tree becomes a deadly weapon, and the patriarch is pinned to the table with silverware as a turkey leg is force-fed into his mouth before a final, grisly impalement ends his suffering. From the snowbound streets of Hell Township to the ominous quiet of a town under siege, the evil of Santa devastates the locals with a savage, supernatural flair. The night’s slaughter extends to a nearby strip club, where patrons and performers fall to a violence that blends the sacred with the profane. Amid the chaos, the crooked Pastor Timmons manages to survive the first wave of killings, a chilling reminder that not everyone is prepared for what Christmas has become. The calamity continues as Mr. Green—the owner of a Jewish delicatessen—meets a brutal fate at the hands of Christmas’s most infamous figure, wielding a menorah with merciless precision.

Meanwhile, a teenage boy named Nicolas Yuleson lives an uneasy existence with his grandfather, a quirky inventor who has hollowed out the basement into a bunker built to outlast Christmas. When Nicolas asks why his grandfather hates the holiday, he’s shown “The Book of Klaus,” a secretive chronicle that reveals Santa Claus’s origins. The tale frames Santa as a malevolent being born from a virgin birth linked to Satan, and it explains that Christmas was once a time of slaughter for Santa until a fateful curling match in A.D. 1005, where an angel defeated him and sentenced him to deliver presents for the next thousand years. That history leaves Santa free to kill again in 2005, rekindling a nightmare that Nicolas must face.

After the initial wave of carnage, Nicolas is arrested for questioning in connection with Mr. Green’s murder, but is bailed out by the brave and resourceful Mary “Mac” Mackenzie just as Santa closes in. The two lovers flee in a police car, escaping thanks to a shotgun stashed in Mac’s truck, and they race toward Nicolas’s grandfather’s forgotten refuge. They end up sheltering in the bunker, hoping the end of Christmas might finally break Santa’s power, but the danger is far from over, and Grandpa Yuleson’s fate remains a grim question mark as the killer’s pursuit continues. The pair eventually escapes again, this time riding a snowmobile through a wintry maze, with Grandpa believed dead but his true role as an angel who once defeated Santa hinted at in whispers and legends.

Confrontation erupts back at a local high school, where Nicolas and Mac hide in the gym and steel themselves for one last stand against the unyielding force of Santa. The showdown nearly costs them their lives when Santa corners them on a Zamboni, but a timely intervention by Grandpa—revealed as the angel who originally defeated Santa—shifts the balance. With Christmas already tipping toward its end, Santa’s powers wane and he flees, his monstrous hell-deer shot down by Mac’s father with a bazooka, ending the immediate threat. The investigation subsequently unravels the grim irony: Pastor Timmons is discovered dead in a Santa suit, but the true killer remains the ominous figure of Santa Claus, who boards a Winnipeg-bound flight under the alias “Mr. Šatan.” Nicolas understands that the threat isn’t over and warns Mac that Santa will return, a grim promise that hints at a legacy of danger they’ll have to face together.

In a quiet, bittersweet turn, Nicolas and Mac share a tender kiss, acknowledging that their relationship must weather the long, dark shadow Santa leaves behind.
