Ayub was killed because he refused to cooperate with Rathnaswamy's scheme to force Pettaiikaaran into a major match. Rathnaswamy had tried to coerce Ayub (Periya Karuppu Thevar) into persuading Pettai to face him in a big fight, offering a substantial sum of money. When Ayub refused, he was murdered in a hit-and-run accident that Durai suspected was foul play by Rathnaswamy to eliminate obstacles in his path to challenging Pettai.

If Pettai's bird lost even once, he would tonsure his head and publicly apologize, quitting rooster fights forever. Conversely, if Rathnaswamy failed to beat at least one of Pettai's roosters, the same consequence would apply to him. Karuppu chose to disappear with Irene to protect her and their future together rather than seeking vengeance or exposing Pettaiikaaran's crimes to the world. Instead of pursuing justice or revenge, he decided to walk away from the violent world of cockfighting, leave the stolen money with a trusted friend, and start a new life with Irene in another city. This choice represented his rejection of the cycle of violence and betrayal that had defined his past.

Durai's roosters were sabotaged by Pettaiikaaran, who poisoned or otherwise disabled them to prevent Durai from winning in the tournament. This sabotage was part of Pettaiikaaran's broader plan to maintain his dominance by any means necessary. The sabotage caused Durai to suspect Karuppu of the act, creating further rifts within Pettaiikaaran's inner circle and amplifying the distrust that Pettai had deliberately sown.

Irene pointed to Karuppu when her neighbors asked about her love interest primarily to protect herself from Dinesh's persistent advances. She did not genuinely love Karuppu at that moment, she was using his name as a shield against Dinesh's unwanted attention. Later, after getting to know Karuppu better, she genuinely fell in love with him. This progression from using him as a pretext to genuine affection reflects her evolving relationship with the mysterious rooster fighter.

Rathnaswamy was desperate for one final win to fulfill an old mother's wish, likely his own mother or a maternal figure who had supported his journey in cockfighting.
