Mark Fischbach stars as Mark, a determined scavenger who, along with his unnamed assistant, plans a daring break-in at a museum to lift an ancient box tucked away inside a secure vault. The quest for the box quickly spirals into a chain of misadventures as the duo scrambles to assemble two keys needed to unlock the vault’s inner chamber. The moment Mark lays hands on the box, an alarm sounds, shredding any chance of a clean exit and forcing a split-second decision: slip away through a sewer tunnel or gamble on a bomb to blast a path out.

If they choose the sewer, the path forks into a tense tangle of choices and fates. A dim, twisting tunnel offers two routes: a dark passage and a light one. The light path dumps them into the middle of the ocean, where the story veers toward a fantastical encounter—either the assistant is seized by pirates, or the pair find themselves stranded on a desert island. In one haunting variation, they are abducted by aliens voiced by Arin Hanson and Dan Avidan, whose presence adds a surreal, otherworldly twist to their peril. In another, they stumble into a perilous encounter with cannibals that tests their teamwork and trust. The dark tunnel, by contrast, repeatedly tempts the assistant to split from Mark. Most splits lead to Mark’s death or disappearance, but one particular split-up ending unveils a chilling moment where the assistant is confronted by a figure named Darkiplier, who claims to have hidden codes across every ending and calls Mark a “liar snake,” steering the story toward the climactic 31st ending. If the assistant opts to stay together, they nevertheless confront chaos inside a tunnel haunted by a “Sewer Cult.” Depending on choices, letting Mark fall into a pit can end in tragedy, while choosing to hold on ultimately leads to a turn where Mark discovers a wormhole device that propels them back to the museum’s start, resetting the maze of fates.

Alternatively, if the assistant selects the bomb as the escape route, the story forks again into two dramatic finales: a helicopter getaway or a car escape. The helicopter option drops them into a rehabilitation-prison setting where the assistant must navigate factions among guards and inmates to push toward a resolution. Here, the ensemble of endings grows increasingly surreal: a fairy hidden inside the box grants wishes but is silenced by a noise-prone guard; Mark is ambushed by Bob, an undercover federal marshal, and if the assistant shoots the imagined threat, it reveals Wade in disguise, exposing that the assistant has been playing a hidden role all along. The box’s reveal—whether the assistant opens it to return to the start or declines to enter a human-shaped hole that alters the balance of power between Bob and Wade—keeps twisting the timeline. Taking the hole often reshapes the fate of the tester, while choosing to gain the prisoners’ respect leads to a cryptic conversation with inmate Yancy about freedom and punishment, where the only clear path is muddled by the decision to stay or leave.

If the car becomes the chosen escape, the road ahead is brittle and unpredictable. The car breaks down, forcing a choice between walking and repairing it. Choosing to repair leads to a sinkhole that opens a cavernous route where a character echoing Indiana Jones, named Illinois, appears and offers a cursed monkey statue that tests the duo’s loyalties: place it on a pedestal and you are briefly transported to monkey heaven, or refuse and the statue’s malevolent influence allegedly seizes the assistant. Walking, however, triggers a pursuit by a wave of zombies. The assistant is bitten, and the duo faces a moral hinge: tell the truth about the bite and Mark’s reaction pushes the pair to separate, leaving the assistant to endure a zombie-infested fate; or withhold the bite and push forward to a choice between seeking a scientist or seeking Fort Brannagan, a purportedly zombie-proof refuge. At Fort Brannagan, a soldier named Ed screens bites, and truth-telling could spell doom while deception unravels a deeper plot—the fort’s infiltration and Ed’s bite set off a cataclysmic showdown, forcing the revelation of the bite to Mark.

Beyond the loop of paths and pseudo-scientific twists lies the box’s final reveal: it is revealed to be the “world’s oldest picnic basket.” The assistant faces a choice between two ancient foods with transformative consequences. A 2000-year-old peanut butter and jelly sandwich turns the assistant into a relaxed zombie, birthing a human-zombie utopia; a 17 AD tuna fish sandwich offers a cure to the zombie virus. A scientist in a lab explains that an anomaly has warped time and space, and she suspects the assistant is the anomaly itself, intent on erasing them. If the pair try to flee, the assistant becomes a zombie and turns on Mark; if they embrace their fate, Mark takes a bullet to save them, revealing that the box itself is the anomaly. As the scientist destroys the box, the film briefly flashes the branching timelines before circling back to the 31st ending, where Mark and the assistant stand at the museum’s threshold, bewildered by how their story began.
