Misaki Sanzaki, Yuki Kura, an upperclassman, pressures Koume Satou Ruka Ishikawa on their first date, and Koume turns to Keisuke Isobe Yuzu Aoki as a rebound, asking him to help her lose her virginity. The two begin a casual sex relationship, and while Isobe once liked Koume in the seventh grade, she does not return his feelings. With Isobe’s parents often out, Koume spends long hours at his house reading manga, listening to music, and exploring her sexuality with him. Haunted by his brother’s suicide, Isobe also keeps alive his brother’s anime blog.

When Koume receives a camera as a gift, Isobe hands her an extra SD card he found, on which she discovers pictures of a girl on the shore. Jealous, she deletes them from his computer, which leads Isobe to ignore her. Koume realizes she has begun to like him, but Isobe breaks up with her out of boredom.

Shota Kashima—the school’s top baseball player and Koume’s childhood friend—confronts Isobe after rumors spread about their relationship. Isobe provokes Kashima, and when Kashima rushes him, they fall over a bannister. Kashima injures his leg, rendering him unable to compete in the prefectural tournament.

Koume spends time with Misaki and his friends, but she leaves after they try to pressure her into smoking cannabis and kissing him. She later visits Isobe at his house; they have sex again, and he reveals his intention to commit suicide. Koume writes a letter for him and buys a copy of Happy End’s album containing the song “Gather the Wind” (which she had heard at his house), planning to give it to him at their school festival.

Isobe attacks Misaki and his friend, calling the police to find cannabis in their bags. On the day of their school festival—Isobe’s birthday, and the day his brother died—Koume asks for “Gather The Wind” to be played, but learns that Isobe has not been to school in three days. She desperately searches for him during a storm, only finding a sticky note that says “sorry.” A week later, Isobe appears cheerful and tells her that he met the girl in the pictures and got her email address, aiming to get into her high school.

Koume confesses her feelings and asks him out, but he declines. In high school, Koume starts dating another boy and shares a kiss with him. On her way home, she runs into Kashima, who reveals that he still has feelings for her. On the shore, she exclaims that she has found what she was looking for: > something bigger than everything else, the sea!
