A Girl on the Shore

On their first date, Misaki coerces Koume into sex. Koume then uses Keisuke Isobe as a rebound and begins a casual sexual relationship with him. Although Isobe once liked Koume in the seventh grade, she does not return his feelings.

With Isobe's parents often away, Koume spends time at his house reading manga and listening to music. The two begin sexually experimenting with each other as their relationship deepens. Isobe also continues his brother's anime blog.

Isobe is haunted by his brother's suicide, a memory that colors his moods and decisions. The lingering grief strains his relationship with Koume and fuels his emotional volatility.

At the school festival—the day of Isobe's birthday and the anniversary of his brother's suicide—Koume asks for Gather the Wind to be played, only to learn that Isobe has not attended school for three days. She desperately searches for him in the storm, but finds only a sticky note reading 'sorry.'

A week later, Isobe returns cheerful and reveals that he met the girl in the photos and obtained her email address, aiming to get into her high school. His news signals a shift in his priorities and his willingness to pursue new connections. Koume watches from afar as his plans unfold.

In high school, Koume has a new boyfriend and shares a kiss with him, signaling her move on from Isobe. The change marks a new chapter in her romantic life. She remains emotionally unsettled by how things ended with Isobe.

On the way home, Koume runs into Kashima, who reveals that he still has feelings for her. He confesses his enduring emotion, adding to the unresolved tension surrounding Koume's relationships. The moment hints at a potential future apart from Isobe.

At the shore, Koume declares that she found something bigger than everything else: the sea. The moment crystallizes her broader, enduring sense of longing beyond the chaotic relationships she has experienced. The film closes on this contemplative note.
