A Bird in a Bonnet

Granny enters a hat shop in 1950s New York City with the goal of finding a new hat. The sales lady has her try on several styles, but none satisfy her. A Napoleon chapeau gag prompts Granny to imitate Napoleon's hand-in-coat pose and quip, 'Not tonight, Josephine!'

Tweety slips into the hat shop while Sylvester chases him from outside. Inside, the sales lady continues assisting Granny with hats as Tweety frets among the displays.

Sylvester rummages through the hats to reach Tweety, prompting the sales lady to catch him in the act and chase him out. Tweety hides at a table, using the distraction to stay out of reach.

Tweety sits still on a hat, and the sales lady mistakes him for a stuffed bird perched on headwear. Granny tries on the hat and, seeing Tweety there, assumes the same and buys it.

Tweety realizes that being treated as a stuffed bird on a hat offers protection from Sylvester. He enjoys the disguise as a refuge while they exit the shop and continue the chase.

Sylvester follows Granny and Tweety out of the hat shop, hoping to grab the bird again. He persists as they move through the busy streets, trying different angles to reach Tweety.

The first ambush comes when Sylvester pretends to sleep to fool Granny. Granny turns and spots the ruse, thwarting the plan and keeping Tweety safe.

In a second attempt, Granny quickly becomes alert and swats Sylvester with her umbrella. The cat recoils, and Tweety remains secure on the hat-disguise.

Sylvester escalates the chase by using a fishing rod to latch onto the hat. Granny hops into a taxi, and Sylvester is pulled along by the speeding vehicle.

The taxi drags Sylvester for several city blocks, narrowly missing two trucks. He finally reels himself in to reach Tweety by popping open the taxi sunroof.

Now he shouts his famous line, 'Now I've got you, buster!', as the taxi drives toward the Holland Tunnel. The cat crashes against the tunnel entrance while Tweety slips from his grasp and hops back onto the taxi's roof.

Tweety delivers the closing quip, 'You know, I wose more puddy tats that way!', as the cartoon ends. The chase concludes with Tweety safe and Granny content with her hat purchase.
