Former aristocrat Ippolit Vorobyaninov lives a bleak existence in Soviet Russia until his mother‑in‑law reveals she hid the family’s diamonds in one of twelve chairs they owned. Partnering with the clever con man Ostap Bender, Vorobyaninov sets out on a long comic quest across the Soviet countryside to find the right chair and recover the treasure.
