On September 11, 2001, U.S. Army Captain Mitch Nelson and his family are shattered by the news of a horrific terrorist attack sponsored by Al-Qaeda. This event marks the beginning of a profound change in the war landscape, propelling Nelson into action as he seeks to serve his country in the face of adversity.

In the aftermath of the attacks, Mitch Nelson volunteers to lead ODA 595 in a mission to Afghanistan. His determination leads him to overcome initial hesitations from Lieutenant Colonel Bowers, who is convinced by CW5 Hal Spencer to support Nelson's leadership despite his lack of combat experience.

On October 7, 2001, ODA 595 departs for Uzbekistan, leaving their families behind. Here, they prepare for an assignment from Colonel Mulholland, who instructs them to assist General Abdul Rashid Dostum in combat against the Taliban in Mazar-I-Sharif.

Upon arrival in Uzbekistan, ODA 595 participates in a crucial briefing with Colonel Mulholland. They learn about the urgency of their mission, which requires them to act swiftly before winter conditions worsen, highlighting the strategic importance of their task.

ODA 595 covertly inserts into Afghanistan aboard an MH-47 Chinook on October 19, 2001. This dangerous maneuver sets them down in hostile territory, and they promptly engage in forming an alliance with General Dostum amidst the complexity of local rivalries.

Nelson and ODA 595 cautiously navigate their turbulent partnership with Dostum. Although initially skeptical, Nelson comes to recognize Dostum's skills, leading to a growing mutual respect as they plan and execute military operations against the Taliban.
