A group of hungry but ambitious actors pool their money and rent a shared apartment, hoping to break onto Broadway. Norman Reese (William Holden) insists no romance until they’re successful, yet Marge Benson (Barbara Britton) and Tony Dennison (James Brown) are already secretly married. When a friend discovers the mixed‑sex living arrangement, she feels obliged to tell Dottie Coburn’s (Martha O’Driscoll) father (Jay Fassett). The film illustrates how Paramount’s wartime output was sold to United Artists to satisfy exhibitor contracts after production losses in England.
