Woman of the Photographs

In 1977 Wyoming, serial killer Rodney Alcala captures images of a woman in the plains. After coaxing her to share her intimate feelings about her painful breakup, he strangulates her before reviving her and committing the act again, leading to her eventual death.

In 1979, young runaway Amy, who is living on the streets of San Gabriel, is spotted by Rodney. He convinces her that he can help launch her modeling career, persuading her to accompany him on a drive to a secluded location.

Once in a desert during sunset, Rodney begins taking photographs of Amy, but the mood quickly shifts. He ambushes her, showing his true violent nature as he prepares to assault her.

Back in 1971 New York City, Charlie, a flight attendant, is busy moving into her new apartment. She sees Rodney taking photos across the street and unknowingly invites danger by asking for his help with her furniture.

After assisting Charlie with her move, Rodney reveals his true intentions. He assaults and kills her, becoming another victim of his heinous crimes amidst the bustling city life.

In 1978 Los Angeles, aspiring actress Sheryl Bradshaw is encouraged by her agent to participate in the TV show 'The Dating Game'. Despite her initial reluctance, she agrees in hopes of gaining exposure and potential romance.

During the live taping of 'The Dating Game', three bachelors are introduced to Sheryl, who remains unaware of the danger lurking among them. Rodney, as Bachelor #3, manages to charm her through his facade, winning the date.

While watching the show, audience member Laura recognizes Rodney as the man seen with her friend Alison, who was later found murdered. Her instinctual concern leads her to report her suspicions, but her boyfriend and security do not take her seriously.

After the taping, Sheryl goes out for drinks with Rodney, who tries to impress her with his knowledge of theater. However, his demeanor shifts dangerously when she playfully teases him, unveiling his sinister personality.

As the evening ends, Rodney insists on walking Sheryl to her car but she becomes anxious when he demands her phone number. After realizing he is dangerous, she manages to flee just in time to escape a potentially violent encounter.

Later in 1979, Amy wakes up bound and bloodied next to Rodney in the desert, faking embarrassment to earn his trust. She cunningly convinces him to free her and retreat to his house, seeking a chance to escape.

At a gas station, Amy bravely seizes the opportunity to run away from Rodney. Her escape leads to the intervention of law enforcement, culminating in Rodney's arrest.

Following his arrest, Rodney is granted bail while awaiting trial, despite overwhelming testimonies against him. He continues his killing spree and ends up murdering another woman and a young girl after his release.

In 2010, the adult Amy testifies against Rodney, playing a pivotal role in his trial that could lead to his acquittal. Her courage helps to shine a light on his horrific actions and lends weight to the evidence against him.

The timeline concludes with Rodney's death in prison, where he spent the remainder of his life. A postscript reveals his potential victim count may exceed 130, while Sheryl finds solace living a private life far from the shadows of her past.
