What Happens in Who’s a Good Boy?: Full Plot Summary

The whole story of Who’s a Good Boy? (2022) explained, from the opening scene to the final frame: every key event, every twist and what it all adds up to. Read it as a quick recap before the sequel, to check a scene you missed, or to finally understand what really happened.

During his final year of high school, Chema (Sebastian Dante) feels deeply distressed because he is the only one among his friends who has not yet lost his virginity. Struggling with social anxiety and failing to connect with girls at school, he seeks guidance from his uncle Jaime (Adrián Vázquez), who provides him with relationship advice and the use of his truck.

Chema's life changes when the principal assigns him to be a guide for the new student, Claudia (Sirena Ortiz). While Claudia shows immediate romantic interest, Chema is too intimidated to reciprocate, even as he drives her to school and attends exotic dance classes with her. Meanwhile, his longtime friend Eli (Luisa Guzmán Quintero) hopes to start a band with him for the Las Posadas celebration, but she becomes heartbroken seeing him grow close to Claudia.

As Chema and Claudia's bond deepens, Jaime warns him about the subtle signs that distinguish a platonic friendship from a romantic one. The tension peaks at a party where Claudia attempts to get intimate with Chema, but he freezes in fear. This leads to a warning from his sister that he risks becoming a "guau"—a "human pet" or servant to a popular girl.

The situation worsens when Claudia invites Sebastián (Yankel Stevan) to her house without telling Chema. After witnessing them together, Chema is ultimately told by Claudia that they are merely best friends and that she is dating Sebastián. Though Jaime tries to help by renting a limousine and providing condoms for the Las Posadas dance, the night ends in disaster. Claudia tricks Chema into confessing his feelings, leading to him being mocked by Sebastián and abandoned by Eli.

Following weeks of rejection and a sudden departure by his uncle, Chema finally finds his voice. Right before graduation, he engages in a heated argument with Sebastián, declaring that no one should be a "guau." This moment of courage earns him the respect of his peers and a reconciliation with Sebastián.

By graduation, Chema has matured; he friendzones Claudia and successfully wins back Eli with thoughtful gifts. Choosing passion over expectation, he abandons his plans for an engineering degree to pursue music. The story concludes during the class trip to Cancún, where Chema and Eli are finally caught in an intimate moment in an airplane bathroom.

Why these movies?

The story pattern: An awkward, insecure character wants to prove their romantic worth before a clear deadline. The resolution favors self-belief and healthier choices over simply winning the desired person, leaving the protagonist more confident and socially connected.

Why they belong together: They share buoyant humor, first-love anxiety, embarrassment, and the warmth of supportive peers. Their steady pacing gives social setbacks room to land without making the tone severe, while optimistic endings reward maturity rather than romantic conquest alone.

Why these movies?

The story pattern: A protagonist begins by seeking acceptance from other people, often through romance, while remaining unsure of what they personally want. A painful episode exposes the cost of that dependence. Creative work then becomes a bridge toward self-expression, while supportive relationships help the character repair old bonds and choose a future on their own terms.

Why they belong together: These films connect romantic disappointment to a larger identity question, using artistic ambition as the emotional turn. Their hopeful tone, moderate emotional weight, and steady movement from insecurity toward self-belief make the growth feel earned, while humor prevents the journey from becoming heavy.
