On San Francisco’s Barbary Coast, saloon girl Toy—called Mary—lives above Mother Bright’s bar. Fugitive Como Murphy hides in her room; she falls for him. He explains his speech on human rights sparked a riot where a policeman was killed, and he was blamed for the crime.
